3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle. Currently there are 33 beers that come up with a search for "dead" but this is the only one for "double dead". When I first saw Dead Guy in Calgary it was the same price as other craft beers. Now that it has reentered the province it is pushing $21 for a 6-pack. Still very cool to find this beer even at $11. I like the red bottle and double skull logo. Dark thick amber liquid. Good starting head and a lasting thin skiff. Aroma of hops, peach and apricot with a hint of alcohol. Makes me think both of a Maibock and almost a Barley Wine. Flavour is a darker mix of fruit and alcohol than the nose implies. Almost liqueur-like. It is indeed a long finish of alcohol and wood. Somewhat mouth drying. Almost like someone added a dash of chocolate to a high ABV Maibock. Lots of biscuit, dried apricot and alcohol.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a strange hazy copper with a big creamy head. Aroma is a tad chemical, with strong citrus hops, pine, and a touch of booze. Sweet caramel malt and some spice, balanced by very bitter finish. Mouthfeel is smooth though surprisingly thin. Not bad, though. Good ale.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark copper color under a huge creamy yellowish head. The nose is strong citrus hops, and carmel malts. It has a slight bubble gum nose. It has a very light mouth feel filled with flavor. It comes across the palate as sweet and malty; It has a fine light bitterness for a finsh to a very balanced fullfilling brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This is a nice hearty beer with an amber pour. The beer starts with a hop flavor coming forth and then the maltiness quicky comes to the forthfront and is also prevalant t in a lingering aftertaste.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The aroma is nice with pine and citrus hops and caramel malt. The appearance is caramel brown with a nice big head. The flavor is like the aroma and bitter as well as sweet and malty. The palate is smooth. Overall it’s good stuff.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750 mL bottle purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Holy fuck this bottle is ugly as sin. An annoying bright red painted/waxed bottle. Pretty faint aroma. A bit of caramel maltiness with some light yeast esters and a little metal is present. Some ethanol also makes it’s presence known. It also has a light nutty sweetnes, too. All in all, the aroma is pretty pedestrian. Mildly hazy amber body with a medium off-yellow head that persists pretty well. More legging than lacing. Start is sweet, a bit peppery, with some caramel malts. More roasted maltiness in the middle with a bit of an ethanol burn. Finishes kind of dry with a more ethanolic bitterness rather than a hop bitterness. Actually, the hop profile is very low in this beer despite its claim of 72 IBU, which makes the booze more apparent. Unmemorable, except for the hideous bottle and price.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle...thanks ceebs!
Pours a nice two fingerwidth beige, creamy head. Leaves a lot of nice lacing on the glass after dissipating slowly. Color is opaque and has a copper penny tint to it. The aroma is hoppy and of strong fruit, resembling more of the mild fruit, more like a berry smell instead of the citrus hop. There is a hint of light malts in there too. Some dose of caramel. I have to agree with ceebs in that the taste is a hoppier barley wine. It definitely resembles the dead guy ale, but with way more of a hop character and a stronger, imperial level taste. It tastes pretty bitter and lingers for a shorter time than i would expect such a bitter beer. Tastes of wood and pine, again the berry sweetness too. A complex beer with a more wet finish than dry, which was kind of surprising after the initial bitter taste. The balance is pretty good, not perfect, but overall i was all for this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bomber bottle. Aroma is strong, i like it, melon fruit, berry fruit, subtle pale malt also somehow comes through for me, and a piny hop. Pour was nice, big bubbling starch white head that almost entirely evaporates, good lacing, dark cantaloupe in color, mostly translucent. Powerful taste, like a hoppier kind of barley wine, basic malt taste is clearly that of a single dead guy (which is good) just slightly stronger, with an imperial ipa level of bitter and full bodied/sticky pine hop, melon, and cherry sweetness, very wet finish and good linger. Highly complex tasting beer, though the all the different flavors that arise don’t smoothly balance out exactly in my opinion. However, this beer was an interesting and enjoyable experience for sure.
