FishManLA (284), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Aug 10, 2009 Copper color with a thick foamy fine head that leaves thick lacing and lasts forever. Sweet nose with floral notes. Extremely rich taste with caramel, toffee, coffee, nuts, and more hop than the commercial description admits to. Long, lingering, hoppy finish. And, oh, what a cool looking bottle! billism (42), Missouri City, Texas, USA Aug 6, 2009 2009, ceramic bottle from Central Market. Pours a clear orangish-amber, almost ruby color. Fluffy head, fine bubbles on the top sides, coarse bubbles in center and throughout. A thin head stays on top. Moderate strength aroma; sweet malty aroma with fruit and light caramel. Nice creamy full body mouth feel. Sweet malty taste that turns piny sweet with a small bitter hop finish. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA Jul 29, 2009 Cloudy burnt orange pour with a healthy conditioned head. Toffeed malt, and celery hop on the nose with some crushed mint. This is over a year old. Also some baked bread malts on the nose and later on the palate. Nice palate, the hops have faded on the nose, but the malt hasn’t seemed to of oxidized much at all. Fresh bread continues on the palate as the malts turn more towards caramel with a bitter sea salt twang reeling in the candy. Old citrusy hops and earthy bitter notes linger in the palate. Off-putting at first, but the second snifter has me warming up nicely. Wouldn’t recommend aging this guy, but it doesn’t kill the beer at all. 87 cmonster (73), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 28, 2009 2009 Edition @ 9.0% abv. Red ceramic 750ml bottle served in a snifter. Hazy orange-amber in color. Short, dense, creamy head. Sweet malty aromas of toffee, caramel, and vanilla. Thick creamy body, Mostly malty, slightly bitter flavor. Some banana. Steely (149), , Sweden Jul 27, 2009 Amber color with a descent beige head. Sweet malty aroma with caramel and fruit. Flavor is sweet with caramel, dried fruit, pineneedles and alcohol finishing off with a hoppy bitterness. cprochak (388), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2009 On tap at the brewery on 6/28/09. Pours light brown with little head. Caramel and vanilla aroma with touch of pine and earthiness. Flavor is incredibly sweet with the caramel coming out in full force. Very solid brew that I could drink over and over if it weren’t for the price. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jul 21, 2009 7/18/2009: Rogue Double Dead Guy is exactly what the name implies. Multiply the characteristics (deep, toasted maltiness, caramel, tea, floral and resin hops, earthy undertones) of the regular Rogue Dead Guy by a factor of two and you have this beer! In addition, it is darker (deep reddish-amber) and a bit thicker (medium-full body, sighly chewy). Overall this beer is good, but not great. It might be twice the intensity of the regular version, but it isn’t anywhere near twice as good and definitely isn’t worth the price then purchased in the big, overpriced ceramic bottle! My recommendation is to seek it out on tap somewhere and just have a sample to start followed by a pint if it meets your approval...
Draught sample(s) at the 14th Annual Indiana Microbrewers Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rating #469 for this beer.
