Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

Shit, I thought I put in a rating for this beer. Can I just call it a muddled mess of a beer with flavors all over the place and nothing integrated? Yeah, the beer was as good as that last sentence. Grapefruit, caramel, alcohol heat, sweet, but not cloying, some nuttiness. I just can’t bother to put in much more about how incredibly average this beer was. Good flavors, separately, but poorly crafted.

22 oz bottle...thanks ceebs! Pours a nice two fingerwidth beige, creamy head. Leaves a lot of nice lacing on the glass after dissipating slowly. Color is opaque and has a copper penny tint to it. The aroma is hoppy and of strong fruit, resembling more of the mild fruit, more like a berry smell instead of the citrus hop. There is a hint of light malts in there too. Some dose of caramel. I have to agree with ceebs in that the taste is a hoppier barley wine. It definitely resembles the dead guy ale, but with way more of a hop character and a stronger, imperial level taste. It tastes pretty bitter and lingers for a shorter time than i would expect such a bitter beer. Tastes of wood and pine, again the berry sweetness too. A complex beer with a more wet finish than dry, which was kind of surprising after the initial bitter taste. The balance is pretty good, not perfect, but overall i was all for this.

750ml bottle. Aroma brings much malt, nuts, cola and some smoke. Flavor is very malty. Also toffee, nuts and caramel. Palate is big. Overall I think this one is to sweet and it has a to "sticky" palate.

reddish brown, mild head. flavor of crystal with the alcohol present throughout, adding nice depth and not being distracting. some hop bitterness and flavor. pretty good, more expansive than dead guy

Reviewed 11/22/2008 (bottle dated 2008): Very cool red bottle. Warmed up a bit. Pours an amber brown colored body. Creamy small white head, diminishing. Clear body. Very hoppy aroma, malty. Sweet nutty smell, bitter. Smooth malty flavor. Nutty, with a hoppy aftertaste. Citrusy. good taste, carbonated. Slightly warming.

750 ml bottle. Pours a ruby amber in color with a huge frothy head. Use of a snifter is recommended here to fully enjoy the floral aroma. The flavor is full of notes of caramel, citrus, and spice. This beer has a well rounded body, and a lasting tart finish. Really good.

Served cold from a tap, and called a doppelbock at this pub. Fairly dry, hoppy bock. Seems a bit light for a strong, double beer, and I am actually rating it lower than regular dead guy. n.b. The name Dead Guy Ale is not very appetizing. I would like to try the cool looking bottle too.

750 ml ceramic bottle purchased at Beverages for Less in Santee. Very tasty. I liked the malt, toffee, and caramel. The hops were present but not to overpowering.
