The aroma was sweet with lots of raisins and cinnamon. There was also bread crust with a hint of grapefruit. The taste was sweet pear core with some spicy cinnamon. There was a nasty sweet, almost honey like finish. Certainly not my thing, but my friends like it. tiggmtl (4312), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2009 2008 version at 9% - Sweet and citrusy in the nose with lime, grapefruit and icing sugar dominant. Lightly hazy deep copper coloured body is topped by a decent off white, large bubbled head that recedes slowly and leaves some lacing. Pleasant round malt sweetness features toffee and just a hint of butterscotch that is offset by pronounced bitterness that is somewhat grassy in character. Citrus is notable throughout and lingers in the aftertaste. Medium-full body with moderate to strong carbonation that prickles the tongue and cheeks and really perks up the taste buds. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at the Brewery Creek in Jan-09. Skyview (4121), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA

Pours a semi-clear orange amber brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates to a white ring. Aroma of citrus zest, some biscuit/multi-grain malt, and some alcohol. Taste is medium to full bodied, plenty of carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, citrus zest with grapefruit, a touch of iced tea and grassy hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a high alcohol warmth and slow disappearing citrus aftertaste. Ughsmash (4103), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 5, 2009 Red 750mL bottle. Poured near-clear ambery-orange with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up honey, caramel, and darker fruity maltage accented by earthy and medicinal character.. the honey and fruity I got outta here made it almost malt likka-ey. The flavor had a somewhat cloying combination of honey, fruity notes, and alcohol that made it a little hard to drink.. spicy, earthy and medicinal notes showed again around the tongue.. bitterness really increased as it warmed up. Medium-plus bodied and bitter on the palate with a tacky texture at times.. spicy at the end, and it warmed up the belly. I don’t know what it was, but this didn’t strike a great chord with me. goldtwins (4086), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Draught. At Cole’s in Buffalo. Clear amber-orange pour with an average off-white head (3+). Dry, sweet roast and BIG alcohol aroma, sweetly herbal, if that makes sense. Taste - yikes! - incredibly bitter and alcoholic, it just grabbed the back of my tongue and wouldn’t let go, a dry, harsh bitterness that water didn’t cut immediately. Oddly, for all that going on, it was pretty thin-bodied, obviously extremely astringent with decent carbonation ... this is a doppel? really? Well it was interesting and I’m glad to have had it, but I won’t have it again - way to harsh, I greatly prefer regular Dead Guy. beerguy101 (3972), Newark, California, USA

This American Strong Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a big red ceramic 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and malty. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and floral. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Definitely a ramped up dead guy, which is not a bad thing. Seems to be a little boozy with a fairly noticeable alcohol bite for a 9% beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
