3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A 750ml ceramic and wingtop bottle with no bottled on or best by date. Poured into a Mikkeller pint glass. It poured a cloudy dark amber colour with a one finger off white head that dissipated fairly quickly but left some spotty lacing. Aromas of apple juice (very juicy), caramel, biscuit malt, grape and a hint of orange. Taste was quite similar with caramel malt sweetness, apple juice, tea, grape, raisins and dark berries. Medium to full bodied with light carbonation. Overall this was ok. Not bad, but just ok. A little bit too caramel-ly sweet for my taste buds.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at Watering Hole. Lots of caramel, malt, nuts, yeast, booze, finish is quite sweet. Feels quite heavy and messy, quite a disappointment compared to the solid classic version.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Nose features big roasted malts with caramel, ripe dark berries, biscuit malt and alcohol. Rich copper colour with a well laced fluffy tan head. This is a beast of a beer. Rich roasted malt, toffee, fruity hops underneath , almonds and dark berries. The body texture is thick and rich. All elements are well integrated. A gem of an East Coast Imperial. None better.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Malty aroma with spicy and citrus hops in the background and quite a bit of fruity yeastiness.
Palate begins with a big bracing bitterness... smooth maltiness and a little bit of toasted bread.. citric hops and a little bit of spice but the hop flavors are more in the background. It says 72 IBUs and I believe it... bitterness is a little out of whack but gets better as it warms and the malts start showing up more... subtle caramel and more toasted malt character... Definite but not bad alcohol and a lingering bitter and yeasty finish.
Body is not as thick as I would have expected.. and I’m okay with that.. carbonation is fairly smooth... drinkability is much better as it warms.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Stoneware swingtop bottle, as Rogue XS Dead Guy Ale, from Costco, Sacramento. The ordinary Dead Guy Ale is not a favourite of mine, but this one is much better. Mahogany colour. The aroma is okay, but not outstanding. The flavour is excellent, malty and vinous with notes of toffee and caramel, also decent hops. Pleasant warming mouthfeel.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Under the name Dead Guy XS (2015 version at 8.1% abv) at Watering Hole on tap. Clear copper with a small off-white head that lingers. Brown sugar, toffee, light oak on the nose. Lots of caramel and malt flavors with some booze. The body seems way too thin. Woody. Prefer the regular.
