Commercial Description:
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue's classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU's approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

on Tap @ Hamilton’s Tavern, San Deigo, CA. Hazy orangish pour with a thick tan head. Aroma was fairly mild and malty. aroma was malt plus alchol. the falvor was very smoth with alchol and malt and soem hops for balence. finsihed creamy and smooth. a nice solid brew, although the alchohol was a bit much at times.

Pours a clear reddish-orange with a great, lasting head and loads of lacing. Sweet, bready aroma similar to the original Dead Guy but a bit sweeter and very faint. Same bready buttery taste as the Dead Guy but the similarity ends there - lots and LOTS of hops in this sucker, great supportive toffee-like malting. Light peppery finish. Thick body, creamy mouthfeel, great carbonation. This is dangerously dangerously sessionable - lots of alcohol, be careful! Very tasty but... $14? Ouch.

From the overpriced 750ml bottle this poured a deep amber body with a smallish off-white head that lasted throughout most of the drinking. Nice lace. Has a fruity, malty nose with strong citrus hops. The flavor isn’t complex yet satisfies, just enough malt to support the sturdy PNW hopping. Dry, bitter finish. No signs of the strong alcohol content either while drinking or afterwards. Is this really 9.5% ABV?

Somewhat darker amber color, moderate to large head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel, somewhat sugary, toffee. Medium bodied, somewhat sweet, a little bit of alcohol. Pretty much what you’d expect.

Bright Red Bottle. Really good beer. Pours a dark amber color with decent head. The aroma is light, some malt. The taste is dangerous - no alcohol flavor whatsoever! Although there isnt much taste, but this just makes it even more surprising because none of the 9.5% shines through.
