COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
JLS Release #34: Double Dead Guy ~ initially released in kegs for JLS accounts, this new elixir will be launched in 750 ml ceramic bottles in the spring of 2008! D2 (our nickname for Double Dead Guy) is a new reincarnation of Rogue’s classic Dead Guy Ale. Mahogany in color, full bodied with an amazing mid-palette richness of toffee and caramel. The hops are evident also, with just enough to keep the maltiness in check. The finish lasts > 15 seconds!! D2 is Double the Fun! Malts: 2-row Pale, Munich, C15. Hops. Cascade for boil (because John was out pf Perle) and Crystal for aroma (because John was out of Sterling ...) IBU’s approx 50-60. 19.8 Plato Original Gravity, 4.9 Plato Terminal Gravity.

2009 bottle. Poured a dark amber color with a nice fluffy head. This beer had very good lacing. Malty smell and also sweet fruit and a hint of spice (pepper). A sweet caramel malt taste with a nice balance of citrus hops. Loved the slightly bitter finish. Thought this was much better than the Dead Guy.

2013 vintage. Unclear dark amber with a decent sized soapy white head. Smells like extra strength dead guy. Imperial maibock is a better description than American strong ale. Aroma is Malty. Caramel. Bready. Flavor much the same. Medium body. Mild bitterness. Some spiciness. Alcohol hidden well. Dry bread crusty finish. A nice enjoyable ’big’ maibock.

Pours a dull, cloudy honey-amber color with and off-white, nearly nitro head. Creamy pull candy and ripe fruit nose. More than full, but not quite thick. Pull candy, wood, light smoke, and ripe fruit sweetness and bitterness.

why did I just take a huge bite out of a PB and J right before rating this beer?
growler into Le Duvel - nose is fruity booze of the spirits kind. Sip adds citrus/grapefruit kick in the teeth. Apparent malty backbone. ABV is well hidden.

Pretty similar to the standard dead guy, to be honest. Good variety of floral hop notes. Could see some great food pairings for this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Completely clear copper red orange color. Thin ring of off-white head. Couple loose reachs of lace. Really interesting nose. Smell is like straight-up banana bread, right out of the oven. Wasn’t expecting that. In the flavor, some spicier malts come out; a bit of caramel. Bigger body, lightly slick. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter, just a very light mild bite at the end. Solid, interesting american strong. Good bigger spicy hop character to it, and good balance with the big, mildly cake-like sweet bready malt.

Real malty. Sweet at first then becomes quite bitter. Wow this is 10%. Hop bomb for sure. On tap at track town.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours a near clear orangish amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sweet grains and toffee with a bit of earthiness backing. Flavor is similar with more earthiness supported by caramel and toffee.

Poured from tap to glass. Dark amber hue with white head that dissipates to a thin ring. Aroma is malt, candi sugar, raisins, pepper hops. Mouthfeel is nice with a full body and light carbonation. Taste is sweet initially with a bitter following and dry ethanol finish. Overall this is a good Barleywine type brew.
