4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Oakes (10935) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - APR 6, 2012
Dark brown body with a dark brown head. Rich chocolatey aromas with earthy African sugars and malted milk. Has a nice earthy chocolatey character and lots of bitterness. Not really a schwarzbier per se, but a different and very taste take on a black lager.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 harrisoni (10909) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 10, 2012
Bottle from GBBF 2012. Black beer with big thick tan head. Authentic choccy schwarz aroma. After that things turn more American. Big huge everything afterwards. Aroma a bit like the Klosterbrau schwarz from Bamberg on draught. But the malts are thicker in the mouth here. More hops too. More bitter on the finish. Good thick malty bitter black lager. If anything it just doesn’t need so much bitterness. Good go at the style though. Very impressive. I find this very approachable. Choc is good, bitterness is good, but because it’s a lager it’s still light and agile. Big fan of this. Yep pretty damn good.

Chopp. Black colour, small nice light brown head, good lacing. Roasted malt indeed in the sweet like aroma with chocolate, coffee and dark fruits. Good mouthfeel. So pleasant a roasted maltiness in the sweet flavour along with chocolate, dark fruits, licorice and a good roasty bitterness in the finish.
