Bottle thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours a thick inky black in to the glass with a large tan head. Aroma is very roasty with rye, pumpernickel bread, nutshells and chocolate. Taste is tobacco, nutshells, light esters, and really dry. The thin body reminds you that this is not an imperial stout. An abrupt finish with nice carbonation. Don’t quite know what to make of this beer. An aborted Baltic Porter attempt? Interesting.

Black pour with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malt and coffee. Some bits if bitter chocolate too. Flavor is loaded with coffee and bitter chocolate. This is really well done.

CaptainCougar (7093) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 2, 2010
Bottle sampled on 1/10/10: Pours an oily opaque with a thin, spotty-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of roasty dark malt and some dark chocolate and fresh piny hops. Starts with an earthy roasty bitterness and good crisp hop balance before a smooth dry mocha finish. A pretty true to style and drinkable hoppy Schwarzbier.

Wonderful shwartzbier, sent by Presario. Pours beautiful black, looks thick, crowned by a small white head. Very roasty aroma. Slightly malty, roasted coffee-ish, chocolate taste. Above average mouthfeel. Satisfying, good moderate maltiness that aids drinkability.

My Bottom Line:
Roasted malts and their coffee allusions delve into caramel and chocolate sweetness for a big and bold cousin to the Schwarzbier style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the blackness.
-This is way too bulky for it to be a classic representation of a Schwarzbier, but I cannot say the mouthfeel is not pleasant.
-Some hop resins create bitterness alongside that of the roasted malts.
-Minty edges are also found in the finish.

Bottle.

Bottle. Reminded me of an imperial stout. Poured tar black, thick, with a beige head. Big nose of roasted malts, coffee and light chocolate. Very rich flavor. Sweet malts blend nicely with some smoky notes. Medium to big in body with moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth. Lingering Mocha aftertaste. I want to have this beer again.

DocLock (6789) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Bottle from Capone’s. Pours thick black with big 3f tan head. Nose is choc malt, cacao, hops. Tastes rich, dark malty, very hoppy, w a huge malt bill that matches the hops well. Smooth and velvety, and comes off like a very hoppy imperial stout, certainly denser than a schwarz.

Bomber. Just about the darkest, thickest pour I’ve seen with a dense head that nearly matched it. The aroma picked up burnt black patent, chocolate, and charred, smoky notes accented by toasty barley and fresh earthy hoppage.. balance was perfect. The flavor held serve.. burnt black patent and chocolate again, this time joined by coffee grounds.. dry black pepper, pine, and earthy bitterness around.. vanilla and smoky notes rounded it out through the finish. Light-medium bodied, dry, and roasty on the palate.. well-balanced with a memorable finish. Absolutely excellent beer that could’ve passed for a porter.
