Nice aroma, dark color and a chocolate sort of taste. Smooth and thick in one’s mouth. A very fine beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance: Black with thick dark head
Aroma: Roasted malt with coffee and hazelnut
Flavor: Wow, an unexpected level of complexity. It’s got a peaty, smokey layer on the front end with chewy tobacco notes. Finishes with a pleasant coffee layer
Overall: One of the more memorable and unique Schwatzbiers

Bottle, pours black with a medium dark brown head, fades quickly to a light film. Aroma is big roast and cocoa. Flavor is much the same, big roast, black strap molasses and burnt sugars. Semi sweet cocoa finishes with a little smoke. Really nice stuff with just the right amount of carbonation.

Draft at Jerry’s. Black with good, foamy, brown head / Rich, toasty nose of roast barley, tobacco, coffee, / Light to medium body, soft carbonation, a touch thin but good balance and bitter finish / Flavors of burnt coffee, toffee, malt, smoke, biscuit, prune / Could use a little more zip to the body, but still a fine brew.

Opaque dark brown - black beer. Small dark tan head. Palate is light and dry. Dry dark malt, little cream. However the malt is over roasted making for an unpleasant burned flavour. Finishes tangy and dry.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg at Friends of Ham. Pours a dark black, finger of head. Aroma is dark chocolate, lager, roasted malts, coffee. Taste is roasty malts, cocoa and coffee, with some caramel teamed to a good black lagery drinkable-ness. Medium bodied, good clean, slightly ashen finish. Really nice indeed, this one.
