We made this braggot with our own marionberries, hops, barley, and honey. Situated across from 40 acres of Rogue hops, 119 Colonies of bees were carefully kept, fed, and smoked and the honey was uncapped, extracted, filtered and finally infused into a refreshing Marionberry Braggot.

Bought a bomber at Hangar on the wharf. This was poured into a pint glass (actually I think that’s incorrect glassware, uh, woops, well, next time as I’m not too experienced with braggots). The appearance was a dark brown slightly dark purple color. A quickly dissipating slim finger’s worth of white foamy head amounted to barely any lacing. The smell had a sweet sticky depth of berry and a nice sticky sweet honey about it. The taste was mainly sweet and carried a decent depth of honey. The aftertaste is quick and slightly misleading as it gives way to a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. The carbonation seemed to be good for me. I’ve barely had many braggots so I’m unable to really gauge for the sty. Overall, I say this was good to me. I liked it as a dessert. I’d probably have again.

This beer pours a dark purple like an eggplant. It has the aroma of grape Popsicles. It leads with that grape flavor and has an interesting not bad not good but different aftertaste. Very unique and surprisingly not much bite for such a high abv beer.

750ml bottle. Darker pour. Very nice braggot, nice berry character, surprisingly dry considering the abv.

Pours a finger of head on a purple body. Interesting. The aroma is Marionberry pie with barley. Pretty good. The taste is quite sweet overall. Lots of Marionberry flavors and honey. Good balance though but the hops never quite make it through. The texture is soft and a little creamy. It’s an uncommon style and this is an enjoyable drink.

Loved it. Little tart, little sweet, dark fruit flavors, so many layers of flavoring. Strong too.

Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a hazy brownish musty rust color with a tiny fizz of foam on the top of the brew. The head fades almost instantly leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is big and boozy with a huge hot alcohol aroma mixed with darker fruit aromas of cherry, boysenberry, raisin and what I am assuming is marionberry (but this I am not 100 % sure of as I have never actually smelt marionberry). Along with these smells are some other lighter aromas of a roasted malt nature as well as slight herbal smell. Taste – The taste begins with a fruity and berry flavor being a mix of some raisin and cherry with the berry flavor being a mix of blackberry and, what I assume is, marionberry. These fruit flavors make a base taste for the brew remaining throughout the entirety of the taste and maintaining a constant intensity. At the start, the fruit is mixed with some roasted malt and a bit of a more bitter woody and oaky boozy tastes that brings a bit of dryness and bitterness to the taste. As the taste advances however, some honey and caramel flavors come to the tongue, with the loss of some of the more roasted flavors. With the boozy flavor steadily gaining intensity all through the taste, and getting enhanced even more at the end, one is left with a berry-fruited and sweet and hot oaky boozed flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – For a brew of 11.4 % this one actually has a bit of a thinner body (but by no way that thin) with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. For the fruity flavors of the brew, these two feel characteristics are nice for keeping the brew more drinkable, balancing out and complimenting the more slow drinking warming boozy tastes rather nicely. Overall – While at first I was a little put off, it really grew on me sip after sip. It has a complex flavor profile with a good balancing feel and a rather intriguing smell. While fairly pricey, this is certainly one to try if you get a chance.

This is not a mead, it’s a braggot, which is a beer/mead hybrid, this particular one has the addition of fruit. In case anyone is wondering, Marionberries are a type of blackberry. 750 ml. bottle from La Bota Liquor in Vista. Pours reddish/orange/brown with a slight head that is quickly gone, consistent for the style. Aroma is of grapes and sweet malt. Seems to get better as it warms in the glass. Overall this is a bit too bitter for me, seems to dominate the flavor and mouthfeel. Probably half the amount of hops would have been sufficient. Also has a strong alcohol effect, warming the tongue, the 11.42% abv is apparent. Tastes like a homebrew experiment gone wrong. At least it still tastes like beer, nice try. Will not revisit.
