Formerly Chatoe Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale.

The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue’s 42 acre hop yard. The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue’s farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale.

I’m giving this a perfect 10 for aroma, as of this time I’ve not given such a high aroma score to any beer. Reason? It smells exactly like a fucking pumpkin pie. If you set a pint of this next to an actual pumpkin pie, your nose wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. It’s an incredibly earthly brew with a luscious taste. Unfortunately, the taste is somewhat overbearing. It’s a good beer to try once, but not such a good one to return to—unless it’s at your yearly Hallowe’en or Thanksgiving table. Still, I give it a decently high rating for the uniqueness of its taste. You won’t find many brews coming this close to pumpkin.

750 ml poured into a goblet. Really nice burned caramel color. Aroma of spice, pumpkin and caramel. Initial flavor is a tasty array of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, allspice, &nutmeg). Pumpkin is definitely present, but not at all sickly sweet like many other Pumpkin brews. Really subtle, substantial flavor here. Nice rootbeer/ cola finish. Top notch brew in the world of Pumpkins.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, over a slightly hazy, dark amber (SRM 15) body......nose is very light toffee/caramel, minimal hops, cinnamon, allspice from spices.....taste is slight sweet toffee/caramel form the malts, light hop bitterness, light squash/pumpkin, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger, finishing dry with a light hop/spice bitterness.....mouth feel medium, carbonation adds tingle with a clean acid finish. This is a nicely balanced pumpkin Ale. All of the elements are present, but none are totally dominant. Often pumpkin Ales are too sweet, too much squash/pumpkin in tone, or so dominated by spices that it is liquid pie. This is none of those. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

Draft at Moriartys. Dark hazy brown copper. Fizzy tight cap. Lots of Pumpkin Spice. Dark wheat notes. Mostly dry, though some deep red fruit sweetness comes out halfway through. Not bad for a Pumpkin Ale, but not something I would drink throughout the year.

Pours a dark copper brown color with a small white head. Aroma is nutmeg, pumpkins, cinnamon, big time brown sugar. The taste is pure pumpkin pie. Pumpkins, spices, vanilla. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a pumpkin beer.

Pours a hazy dark pumpkin flesh color with a large, bumpy off-white head. White pepper spice and pumpkin bouquet. Very soft, smooth, flat, and enveloping mouthfeel. A bit of gourd-vegetable flavor, but earthy as hell.

Pours a muddy amber with a beige head and aroma of pumpkin and spices. Taste is of pumpkin spice, nutmeg, light cinnamon and allspice, with malty, caramel tones leading to a dry, fall spice finish. Nice pumpkin brew

Not my favorite Pumpkin ale, but has a good, spicy aftertaste, and it’s kind of cool that they used pumpkins that they actually grew themselves.

22oz bottle. Pours a hazed deep amber color with a tight spongy off-white head.Dry pumpkin, some sweet spice along with some toasty, grainy malt on the nose.Toasty malt with notes of caramel, along with some roasted pumpkin start things off in the flavor. Pumpkin spice and some mild sugars show up in the middle, finishing with a well-balanced combination of spice, caramelized sugars and toasty, nutty malt. Medium-bodied, silky smooth texture, moderate carbonation.
