2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
THOUGHTS: My bottle said Chatoe Rogue, not Rogue Farms. Lots of flavor for a fairly low ABV beer. It leaned more to the beer side more than many pumpkin beers. Not very special . I was hoping for something different. Spices got a little overpowering toward the end. The hops and spices seemed to slash. Slightly disappointing.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light to medium orangey brown with a large to huge, off-white head that mostly diminished but kept a decent sheet. The aroma was slightly weak, but had dark bread and caramel; light to moderate hops; brown sugar; some pumpkin pie spices; and a good amount of pumpkin pie pulp. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly acidic and bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, light to moderately bitter and ever so slightly sour with an average duration. There was brown sugar, caramel, dark bread, pumpkin, pumpkin pulp, pumpkin pie spices and some hops. But overall the flavor was a little watered down. The just a touch lighter than medium body was watery and slightly syrupy with soft but tingly carbonation a slightly metallic finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber. Allspice dominates the aroma at first followed by nutmeg, clove and pumpkin. Pours amber-orange with a good white head. Starts out with strong pumpkin flavor followed by the above spices. Finishes smooth and pumpkiny with the spices coming back at the very end.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz served in an Allagash cervoise
A - Pours a dark reddish copper color with an egg cream head. Darker than most pumpkin beers.
S - Dried spiced, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, sweet pumpkin, brown sugar, nutty yeast
T - Sweet and creamy pumpkin pie flavor, good bill of spice, allspice and cardamom being the most prominent, the cinnamon is faint. Pecans, cream, there’s a clean character in there as well. The spice runs long into the finish
M - Moderate carbonation, thick feel, medium full body,
Very good for the style. It’s full flavored with plenty of pumpkin and rides the edge of too spicy while maintaining a steady sweetness. Like this one alot.

Lovely Fall aromas of all spice, nutmeg and so on. The pumpkin aroma in this is actually really good. It comes out quite well through the beer.
A dark murky appearance with a decent head and okay lacing.
The taste is really flat. I'm quite disappointed. While the spices are quite strong, not much of a pumpkin taste follows through. Given the aroma, the taste is not what I was expecting. Tastes almost like steeped spices!

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to flute
Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, mace, and coriander. Reddish brown colour with nice effervescence and a creamy tan head. The spices are a bit strong and overwhelm the pumpkin taste, but it is there.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Pours clear and deep orange - much like the bottle - with a small, wispy, white head. Good retention. The nose delivers all the right winter spices and I’m actually picking up a substantial measure of pumpkin meat in here – unfortunately, that’s a rarity for the style. Full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The flavor is nicely-balanced, malty and fairly spicy - not overdone or overbearing in any way. No pumpkin component here. Finishes lightly sweet, and then the pumpkin component finally makes another appearance. Better than expected.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured into a perfect pint.
3.5 A: Faintly hazed medium amber color. Two fingers of frothy/creamy beige head. Retention is about average and some irregular lacing is left.
3.5 S: Pumpkin has a good strength in the nose. Most pumpkin beers either skimp on the pumpkins or don’t even use them at all. Nice to smell one that does neither. However, the spices are a bit weak on this. Just light cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Moderate caramel, a light toast, and a enough neutral sweetness to round things out.
3.5 T: Like the nose, there is enough pumpkin, but not enough spice. I want more of all of the spices, but especially the nutmeg. Fairly dry overall with just a light caramel sweetness. Lightly toasty. Easy drinking, but don’t expect this to impress you.
3.5 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Could use some more creaminess, but it’s not bad overall.
3.5 D: Good pumpkin flavor in this, but nothing else is any better than the ordinary, which seems to be a theme when it comes to pumpkin beers.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted on 5/11/13 from a capped, orange 750mL bottle purchased at Sun Devil. Pours hazy dark auburn with an average beige head that slowly recedes to fairly thin lace. The nose is just like a pumpkin pie, with plenty of baking spices, pumpkin, and caramel malt. The flavor is more focused on the baking spices, is very dry up front, with the pumpkin and caramel malt on the back of the palate. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long cardamom and other baking spices finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2013-04-19. Lightly hazy dark amber brown with a large beige head and lace. Sweet malty aroma with good amount of spice character. 7+ Flavour is similar, pleasantly spiced, sweet malt core, sort of sharp bitterness to the spice in the finish. Lingering nutmeg? 7++ Smooth average plus bodied palate. 3++ Pretty tasty, don’t love the spice but it is a pretty solid beer overall. Bottle from LCBO, Toronto

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
First Chatoe Rogue single orange bottle at the LCBO. Production date: Oct. 4, 2012. Pours a hazy amber colour with an off-white cap, good retention and soapy lacing. Typical good pumpkin ale scent with the spices and amber ale base. Silky, oily mouthfeel. Nicely balanced spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) with mild roasted malts and some pumpkin purée. Slightly sweet finish with maple notes. A nice companionship between farmers and fermenters. A good "Grow your own" project from Rogues. This is how a fresh pumpkin ale should be, without the fake stuff of most.
