COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly Chatoe Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale.

The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue’s 42 acre hop yard. The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue’s farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale.

Very average pumpkin beer. Some may like the muted flavor, but it’s not for me. Aroma was alright. Slight pumpkin pie spices that you really have to dig your nose in to find. Pour was a nice dark amber with a one finger off white head. Taste was sweet, light and spicy. Light cinnamon and brown sugar flavors were the main flavors which stuck through to the finish. Hints of caramel and vanilla were present but distant. Very thin mouth feel and a quick spicy finish. Average at best.

750 ml bottle from Biggie Wine & Liquor. Clear amber reddish appearance with a beige head. Aroma of freshly roasted pumpkins, nutmeg, spicy clove, cinnamon, caramel malts and light toffee. Similar flavor, nicely balanced and not overdone in any aspect. Moderately spiced and lightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Medium body with a crisp feel and a rich, spiced finish. I’m not a big fan of pumpkin beers in general, but this one stands out in a big way.

On tap at Brass Tap , Coral Sorings, pours a light rustorange color wth a very small head. Nose is spicy with pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Taste is full of fall spices, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin with some mold sweetness. Finishes on the same sweet fall spicey notes. Great pumpkin ale. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Aroma: nutmeg, cinnamon, pumpkin. Appearance: hazy amber, small, white head. Taste: light bitter and sweet. Palate: initial bitters make way for some spiced sweets, nutmeg and cinnamon, lively carbonation. Overall: nice Pumpkin Ale, great aroma. Pint at Yard House Downtown, San Diego.

Pours relatively lighter bodied chestnut brown. Almost no head and what appears to be light carbonation. Something about this pumpkin beers’ aroma does almost seem fresher than most. Still has all the usual suspects in the spice category for a pumpkin ale: nutmeg, clove, cinnamon. Also has a honey/caramel like sweetness that may be the malt profile asserting itself a bit. This is definitely a more restrained and balanced pumpkin beer than most out there. Firm malt presence the entire way thru, similar profile to a good oktoberfest/marzen beer. If you’re pallet is not yet burnt out on all the pumpkin ales, seek this one out for a milder, pleasant experience.

Bomber - nice burnt orange color with light head. Nice balanced aroma of pumpkin pie and malt. The overall flavor is delicious, but lacking a pie punch. I think the hops in the background come through slightly heavy, masking any sweet with bitterness.

Transfer from BA review on 11-23-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a hazy orange color with a one finger of off white head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a decent level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell - There is a big hit of roasted pumpkin with lots of spice of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove. A bit of a bready smell mixed with some caramel and brown sugar sweetness round the aroma out, and when mixed with the rest of the smells, create a very nice roasted pumpkin pie like aroma overall. Taste – The taste begins with a roasted pumpkin and rather sweet flavor upfront. The sweetness is a nice mix of brown sugar and caramel. The caramel flavors take on a bit of a more toffee/buttery nature as the taste moves on, with some more bready and doughty flavors coming to the tongue as the taste advances. Some spice flavors of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and allspice, which are lighter upfront, get even stronger more toward the end of the taste. Along with the spice growing stronger, so too do some of the roasted pumpkin flavors. Along with these flavors increase, so to comes some hints of a citrus, vanilla, and ginger like flavors more toward the end, with the mix leaving a still quite smooth pumpkin pie flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side for a brew of only 5.6% abv with a carbonation level that is rather average. The moderate body is decent for the pie like flavors of the brew, although a slightly thicker feel may have been more appropriate. While an even lower carbonation may have accentuated the pie like flavors of the brew even more, overall the feel was still OK as it matched the abv well and did keep it a very crisp and easy drinking pumpkin brew. Overall – A tasty, easy drinking, pumpkin ale. Lots of spice and roastedness with a good level of sweetness. A rather enjoyable drinker overall.

Overall a decent pumpkin, although it almost seemed not finished. Pours a very nice deep red, but he head disappears almost instantly, to leave a very thin almost watery beer. Smells great, pumpkin pie and cinnamon. Taste is a bit empty, almost like one of our homebrews before it is ready. Maybe we got a bad bottle? Some pumpkin pie in the taste. Had in the bottle.

"This is a robust full bodied pumpkin ale done very well, it’s just hard to get past the $10.99 price tag on what ends up being a good (but not great) beer. Nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon malts and other spices. Smooth and tasty, just wish it were $5 cheaper."

Wowza!! This one is pumpkin pie in a bottle. So delicious and not overly sweet. The pumpkin really comes through and the spice profile is spot on for my taste. The best pumpkin ale I’ve had yet (most of the time I don’t even bother to rate these).

Pours a hazy reddish-brown with a very thin white foam head. Aroma is pumpkin and a blend of spices, predominantly allspice and cardamom. Flavor is the same, and it comes off sweet. Very enjoyable pumpkin beer.
