draft at Coles, darker pour, blackish. Lots of rye, bread, some rye harshness, pretty hefty dose of roasted malts. the main components do not seem exactly in sync. OK

Not a fan. Pours murky red/brown with a gray/tan head. Aroma is earthy/skunky. Taste is really off. Wet cardboard comes to mind. Finishes slightly fruity.

2/10/13. 22oz bottle from Grassroots Natural Market. Lightly hazed brown pour, deep reds under the light, with a 3-finger, thick khaki head that cuts in half but laces significantly. Very bready aroma, quite malty, with a wisp of smoke, caramel, rye, and something that reminds me of a smooth lager. Malty entry with a touch of acidity, sweetness, rye, caramel, and again something that almost reminds me of a dark Mexican or Vienna lager. Not bad.

Initially promising, very dark thick bodied with a long lasting head. Sme roast, smoke. But something a little off, and then a little skunky taste. Didnít make the grade.I think from Champaneís Cellars.

Sampled with kristen at Wintergreen. Pours near clear dark brown with mohogany highlights and fair tan foam head. Lightly spicy earthy tones. Very mellow caramel, and slight sagey hop bitterness. The rye also has a sweetness that is very nice. Really delicious actually.

Dark amber on tap with a modest head and some lacing. Not much fragrance, plenty of malt and some aromatic notes. A bitter finish but not clean.

Bottle. Poured clear brown with an average to large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted rye sweet aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This sweet beer would go well with a full bodied cigar.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22oz bottle, shared with friends. Mostly clear darker red / brown color. One-finger off-white head. God thick lace. Medium body, smooth carbonation. Dry finish. Interesting rye beer - different than most Iíve tried, mostly in that itís not nearly as hoppy. Much more prominent rye malt. No balance, but itís a rye-featuring beer. Toasty, spicy, bready malt. Maybe a tiny bit of earthy hop. Rye malt is very big, lingers long in the aftertaste, but I donít mind it, I think itís pretty interesting. Very much like rye bread, which I dig. Bitter taste, very dry. I was told by someone before I bought this that it was terrible, a drain-pour, she even said. I can see why, itís a rye-bomb. But thatís interesting to me.. Unique thing, here

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at St. Augustineís, Vancouver
Dark brown color, with creamy persistent head. There is some aroma of pond water, stale. The mouthfeel is smooth; it has some flavor of dark caramel, some extra flavor given by the Rye, some dust in the end; quite strong bitterness; the final is dry and a bit breadish.
