Murky dark brown beer with a tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Smooth malt, touch of cream. Whisper of dark chocolate and tangy orange. Little rye spice. Light touches of paper and yeast. Finishes semi dry. Solid if uninspiring.

Clear copper with an aroma that’s like rye dough and chef boyardee. Tastes about the same, chef boyardee noodles and some bread dough.

Bottle from Binnys. Poured very dark brown with cream head. Aroma of roasted malt and slight farm funk. Quite smooth balance flavor.

Tap at Rogue. Clear, deep red pour. Wispy, white lacing. Nose is funky smoked tea, similar to Kambucha or suchong tea. Smoked, brown sugar taste with kambucha sweet tea. Strange beer. Cloying sweetness as you drink through the small pour, but soft body is a nice change from the abrasive bitterness in most of Rogue’s offerings.

22oz bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark burnt orange color with a two finger off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt with slightly sour, spicy rye and light grassy hops. Flavor is a very well melded caramel and biscuit malt, rye and slight nuttiness, with a mild spicy hop presence in the finish. Light to medium body with moderate, soft carbonation.

Bottle from Sprout’s: Poured a dark gloomy liquid nearly opaque because of how much sediment/junk are floating in balanced equilibrium. Aroma is based primarily based off malts while there is a heavy dosage of spices on my nose that I could care less to individually pick one by one. The drink delivers a tart taste of expired malt sugars and expending yeast but somehow still gives off an artificial rye bread flavor that I find putrid which ends up tasting like the most dud first growth chatoe rogue I’ve had- to date.

Poured from a bottle. Clear light brown color, no real head . Not much of a nose. Light fizzy grain body with a light bitter finish.

I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. The smoky aroma reminded me of camping: it was a perfect mix of forest and smoke aromas. The taste was unique, with mild flavors, a nice crisp finish, and a light mouthfeel. It was different from many rye beers so it was not what I expected, but it was a pleasant experience all the same.

Bottle from wegmans. Pours dark brown with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is sweet rye bread, light raisin. The taste has spicy rye, dry bitterness, and a bit of a hop kick in the finish.
