Pours deep mahogany into an English pint. Tan head with good retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Sourdough and roasted nut aromas. Medium bodied with spicy pumpernickel upfront turning to sourdough before the earthy bitter finish.

11 ounce goblet - $6.50 at Taco Mac (Prado) in Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Appearance: Dispensed a muddled, opaque brown body with a fourth of an inch of fine, dusty white suds.

Smell: This isnít exactly what I had anticipated. Burning rubber, molten plastic notes. All in all, itís highly displeasing and begs the question: "they really let this monstrosity leave the brewery?"

Taste: Roasted cigarette butts, a heavily phenolic smoke character giving a flavor of burnt rubber doorstops, lacquered bandaids, and a growing hint of six bucks and fifty cents absolutely wasted.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Appallingly bad.

nick76 (4213) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JAN 11, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 14, 2013 The aroma is probably the strangest I have smelled itís like asphalt, rubber, toasted malt, and grassy hops. The appearance is amber brown with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a nice chocolate finish. The palate is smooth. Overall one of the strangest beers I have had but not bad.

22oz bottle. Medium brown color. Smells of peppery rye, smoked malts. Tastes of brown bread. Toasted dark malts, slight peppery tingle, smoke. Sticky on the lips. I nice mild rauch & bold rye. (3602)

reebtogi (4151) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 27, 2013
650ml bomber pours brown in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass as it settles. Aroma is caramel and grains. Taste is a spicy hop bitterness with an underlying malty sweetness. Light to medium body with nice carbonation. A well done brew that I recommend to others.

Clear copper with an aroma thatís like rye dough and chef boyardee. Tastes about the same, chef boyardee noodles and some bread dough.

emacgee (4009) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Soft copper brown pour with one finger of dirty white head. Ruby highlights. Super spicy flavor, hops are there. Citrusy and raw fruit notes coming through. Nose is awful, smells like something gone bad.

TURDFERGUSON (3948) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 11, 2013
Pours a murky brown amber with a creamy foamy white head, sticky white lace. After it breathes for an hour or so, you can get more than harsh dark rye grain. Also some bran, juicy citrus, light pine, even some pineapple and light woody Flemish Red-like tartness. What a different aroma after an hour of "decanting." Flavor is less harsh for sure, and has taken on a nitro-like creamy mouthfeel, but itís still just rye malt and some uninteresting bittering hops that do nothing for me. Starts creamy but ends bitter. Slightly harsh. Overall not the best rye-centered beer Iíve tasted but Iím still glad I didnít pour it after my initial strongly negative reaction.

This rogue sampler is proving pretty boring. Smells of have malt and a little rye. Carbonation a little low. Finish a little sour and musky. Nothing going on here. Tap at coles.

ben4321 (3863) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Location: 22 oz bottle from Sparrow-Downtown, 12/13/12

Aroma: The nose is a bit earthy, some yeasty notes, grains, fruity esters, herbs, and a bit of smoke
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color, with a red hue, a lasting, foamy beige head, and heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, with a little sweetness, and some light-medium bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a smooth, creamy feel, a soft carbonation, and a lightly dry finish
Overall Impression: Only 3 raters of this one? Seems pretty low for a Rogue beer that I purchased in NJ. Anyway, as for the beer, this one is interesting. Thereís a lot going on here for sure. Maybe a little too much? I canít decide. This one doesnít make the transition from just interesting to really good. It ends up somewhere right in there.
