3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy and rather dark brown with a fairly small off-white head. Nose is quite hoppy, actually, with some fairly strong grain notes in there. Taste is strongly grainy from the rye, yet remains remarkably clean. Good brew.

650 ml. Lightly cloudy dark brown with a lasting film of bubbles. Nose is dark toasted bread, chocolate and molasses. Tastes of dark toast, sourish molasses, spicy rye and touches of smoke and citrus. Medium body has medium carbonation and is to the sweet side.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a murky brown amber with a creamy foamy white head, sticky white lace. After it breathes for an hour or so, you can get more than harsh dark rye grain. Also some bran, juicy citrus, light pine, even some pineapple and light woody Flemish Red-like tartness. What a different aroma after an hour of "decanting." Flavor is less harsh for sure, and has taken on a nitro-like creamy mouthfeel, but it’s still just rye malt and some uninteresting bittering hops that do nothing for me. Starts creamy but ends bitter. Slightly harsh. Overall not the best rye-centered beer I’ve tasted but I’m still glad I didn’t pour it after my initial strongly negative reaction.

Sample from bottle @sbwf13. Opaque brown with nearly no head. Aroma is spicy, green tea and rye. Taste is sweet, not too heavy on the hops and with nice rye notes.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled with kristen at Wintergreen. Pours near clear dark brown with mohogany highlights and fair tan foam head. Lightly spicy earthy tones. Very mellow caramel, and slight sagey hop bitterness. The rye also has a sweetness that is very nice. Really delicious actually.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at De Molen @ 2nd tuesday tasting, hosted by dEnk. Copper sunset pour, thin off-white head. Aroma is slightly sweaty, spicy, sweet malts, some funky tones and strange fruityness. Flavor is sweet malts, some licorice, spicy and completely off balance. Quite bad.

Nose - brown bread, light smoke. A hint of dried fruit.
Taste - big dried fruit cake thing. Lovely smoky backdrop.
Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a balanced dry finish.
Overall - reminds me of Schlenkerla Fastenbier. Delicious.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Transparent cherry sepia, thin white ring. Stale oat and sugar nose, faint rye peppery spic but forgettable. Flavor is worse, tons of sugar and playdoh, sticky and empty in the end where toast and sugars combat for what’s left of this sweet emptiness. Rye is inexpressive, underattenuated, no complexity, wort-esque.
