jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Nov 9, 2006 Bottle. A hazed orange color with a big foamy off-white head. Orange, lemon and pepper flavors with a rich, thick full body. A medium spiced flavors. Rating from 2005 notes. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Nov 4, 2006 Rogue FestiveAle
22 oz bomber
Unknown bottling, celebrated 11/06
Medium pour in a tulip glass.
Poured a hazy orange copper with a large rocky off-white fully lasting with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate oranges, bubble gum, cloves, and ginger.
Taste was upfront moderate sweet candied ginger and oranges followed a strong awkward bitter sweaty yeast taste on an average length bitter tasteless affront. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied, dry, lively carbonated with light to moderate astringency, mostly on the finish, and faint alcoholic burn.
Overall, a very disappointing Rogue beer and saison beer, as the bitterness seems too strong and overwhelms the other flavors. Not a pleasant saison by any means. I’m so disappointed by Rogue right now, hopefully they will tweak their recipe. They are so ashame of this beer they don’t even have it listed on their website... nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 30, 2006 Poured a slightly murky rust color with a huge foamy head. Smelled of spice, slight hops, vanilla and a little yeast. Yeasty and grainy flavor. Flat and a little dull. A little too yeasty for my taste. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Oct 30, 2006 BA BBF 06. light hazy orange. Aroma is alot of spices, yeast, some citrus notes. Taste is the same as the aroma, with earthy notes. decent saison. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 29, 2006 650ml bottle from Rogue, Portland. Cloudy orange/gold, lasting beige head. Nice orangey Belgian yeast aroma. Lovely fruit, bit of passion fruit, vanilla, orange, gorgeous. Hot summer day drink. Great Belgian style fruity, wheatish beer. Belgian yeast is everywhere. Good beer. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 22, 2006 Pours an unspectaclar clear orangey amber (becoming murkier with bottom third of the bottle pours) with a big foamy white head. The nose is subdued, which struck me as odd for the style. Sour apples, some light vinegar, a hint of ginger, and a light sweetness. The palate is a little sharp, with perhaps a bit too much carbonation, but it’s hard for me to hold it against the beer too much, as it seems to fit this particular brew. Also a bit watery. Also, a little gritty? The flavors are the strength here. Sour apple, peppery spice, a hint of vinegar, and some very earth flavors predominate. The gingery sweetness is balanced by ample sour character, though the whole thing is a bit muddied by those earthy flavors. The lingering bitterness is earthy, almost dusty, perhaps becoming like old hops? This beer tears me apart, some aspects I like, others I could live without. tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Oct 22, 2006 Looks orange with a very large fluffy white head. Smells like apples and pears, spices, and bread/dough. The spicyness and hops both come out more in the flavor, and the apple is still there along with other fruits like cranberry/plum/etc. The ginger is not overpowering, and adds a nice touch. Its a bit watery, and I feel like these flavors really come out best in the end/ lingering aftertaste. Also, its a bit over carbonated. The flavor combinations are good though, and I enjoyed it! ehhdayton (1113), USA Oct 17, 2006 Pours a cloudy golden with a huge white fizzy white head. The aroma is spicey. Flavor is akin to champagne with a fruitiness and spicy quality.
