IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Mar 22, 2006 Poured a clear effervescent amber with a large fizzy white head. Aroma of honey, flowers, some orangey ctirus. Flavor starts out sweet with some honey and floral essences but quickly becomes very dry with a bit of toffee and lots of pepperyness. Struck me as a tad aggressive for a saison, not especially classy. CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 16, 2006 I don’t usually dig rogue...and this is a shity saison to further my opinion. Pours a pale orange....funky farmhouse yeast (kind of bretty...but I doubt they used any). Flavor was way too spicey and peppery...most unbalanced saison I’ve encountered. Too carbonated and very starchy. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Mar 15, 2006 I’m only taking points off because of a strange astringincy at cellar temp. A wild and accurate farmhouse ale. Spices are subdued, different flavors coming at different temperatures. Ginger at first, pepper later. Full bodied and refreshing at the same time. Interesting brew. trafford (171), Germantown, Tennessee, USA Mar 13, 2006 Not one of my favorites from Rogue. I have tried 5 different Rogue Ale in this setting and this is the worst one. The smell made it difficult to enjoy. The high carbonated and the citrus make it decent Saison, but would not look forward to ordering again. RAYBOY01 (1813), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 11, 2006 Very spritzy carbonation and mouthfeel. Champagne-like texture and nose. Bright orange peel and citrus aromatics. Orange and citrus flavor with a spicy/peppery finish. I found this saison to be light, simple, uncomplicated, and unsophisticated...but very drinkable and fun. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Mar 11, 2006 Pours a murky orange color with a thin white head and no head retention or lacing. Smells spicey with some yogurt, and some barnyard and sour elements. Tastes spicey with some peppery notes, hoppy elements and nice mellow bitterness, with some ginger orangey notes being the most pronounced. Palate is a bit empty but otherwise a good beer. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 8, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & Dave B. -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a slightly hazy bubbly golden-orange with an average size white head. Aroma of grain, yeast, herbs and spices -- but mostly grain. It smells pretty bland and a little "off". Flavour is yeasty and has some citrus and spices in the background but they can’t compete with the unpleasant upfront harshness and astringence. This is way too carbonated and quite unbalanced. Definitely the worst Rogue beer I’ve had and one I’ll never have again. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Mar 7, 2006 Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy and Dave B, my bottle. Poured hazy red-tinged amber, decent foamy lasting beige head. Fairly nasty barnyard herb and yeast aroma, dead flowers - hope it tastes better than it smells. Taste is really harsh, funky, herbal - but the ginger is strong and saves it from total nastiness - acidic, overly fizzy, harsh - nossir, don’t like it.
