On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, pours black with a red tinge and a small beige head. Aroma of sour malts, metallic notes and slight dark fruits. Flavour of sour, metallic fruits and dark roasted malts. Surprisingly well-constructed and balanced. Not generally of these Belgian stouts, but this one is very well-crafted. Solid stuff.

469/1515. Thanks so much for hooking this one up, Marshall! Owe ya one. 750, capped, ceramic bottle with swingtop. Pours jet black with a surging, gorgeous dark tan creamy mousse on top. Looks like a chunk of obsidian with some really rich pancake batter slathered across it. Beautiful rich chocolate nose, a nice roast with a beautiful cocoa accent layered in. Creamy medium body with restrained carb. Chocolate, cocoa, and roasty notes on the mid palate, with a mild chocolatey finish. Not getting a whole lot of belgian yeast esters, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there doing something interesting, and I just haven’t teased it out yet. Is this beer worth $30? Yes--for 4 of them for sure, and probably for 3. But $30 for one makes this a one and done.
