SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 14, 2008 Cloudy golden pour with a big foamy head that sticks around a while. Spice and citrus dominate the aroma, along with a bit of grain and yeast. Flavor is quite spicy as well, along with the definite grain and lemon zest. Creamy and thick on the palate, with a lasting sweet and spicy finish. Quite refreshing and good. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 13, 2008 Pours with a three-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a hazy, gold color that shows more of the same, just lighter, when held up to the light. The aroma is quite spicy with notes of fresh ginger, lemon zest and some earthy coriander. The grain character, while secondary, produces aromas of sweet wheat, some grassy grain notes and perhaps a touch of cracker like malt. The aroma is more spicy than anything and is pretty clean otherwise.
Lightly tart up front, with just a touch of honey like grain sweetness that is noticeable for a flash in the middle. Flavors of ginger are the most prominent note noticeable, followed by a tart, lemon note from the coriander. The coriander also contributes a touch of herbal, slightly earthy character that lingers a bit in the finish acting not unlike a hop bitterness. This has some body to it that contributes to the ginger and coriander notes sticking to the palate a bit.
Simple in its spice character, refreshing on a hot day, but not all that interesting. Something a bit more characterful than the Pacman yeast would go a long way to making this a bit more interesting.
Purchased: Plaza Liquors, Tucson AZ Beer2000 (1775), Kristiansand, Norway Aug 10, 2008 On tap@Rouge Ales and Public House. Hazy orange body with a thin off-white head. Aroma has a kind of spicy acidulous grapefruit impression, close to what might be expected from wild yeast. Flavor is fruity, a bit acidulous, spicy and malt. Fine, light, and actually incredible refreshing. Finally something different in the world of wheat. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 2, 2008 On tap at Rogue in Portland--Poured a soapy hazy yellow body with a thick white head. Yeasty, wheaten nose with a mild citrus nose. Mediocre at best. illkarate (89), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 2, 2008 22oz bottle. Nice semi-cloudy, golden yellow, strong head. Taste is middling - definitely some coriander, hay, hints of citrus (not much), but I could not find the ginger. Overall, decent offering, but I would probably not buy the deuce-deuce again. There is much better stuff out there (Pyramid and Widmer are actually better). pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 Lightly foggy gold with a thin white head. Aroma is an interesting malt and very piney skunky hop type note. Taste is a light maltiness, citrus, light spice. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Jul 17, 2008 Decent. Highly drinkable and refreshing. Well carbonated but surprisingly small head. The flavor is very light and slightly dry. Hints of spicyness, but mainly citrus flavors. Not as much spice or flavor as I was hoping for. Lightly bitter finish. Very good for a wheat ale. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bomber. Pours cloudy gold with a white head that quickly descends to a ring of foam. Fruit and spice nose. Sweet and somewhat ’peachy’ wheat taste. Dry spicy, and softly bitter finish. Interesting take the wheat ale style, but I’m completely in the dark why they’ve named it as a hefeweizen.
