satan165 (542), River Grove, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2008 not sure what makes this ’the belgian style’. corainder and ginger? at any rate, spice notes are minimum and wheat characteristics are almost non-existant. citrusy saaz are at the forefront which is almost always toleralble at minimum; its the saving grace here. aroma is non-existant....and a nice belgian or weizen should definately present more in that department. still, refreshing is a fair adjective, but still disappointing for rogue. hayduke (1621), Eureka, California, USA Apr 16, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle this poured a hazy orange with light yellow head and very little lacing. Almost no nose at all, what there was citrus hops and spices. Mouthfeel was fizzy and it seems highly carbonated. Flavor of lights malts and the advertised coriander. Not much of a finish. Overall not much a a beer, and I am surprised at the high average score I see here. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Apr 13, 2008 I agree with previous poster’s comments. Rogue is better than this!
The bottle calls it a hefe, but it doesn’t seem like one. Yeah, it’s unfiltered, but there’s not malt to balance this one out. A little too much spicy hop aroma on the nose for the style without the yeast esters that you expect. The coriander was a bit too pronounced, probably due to the lack of any malt character. I’ll have to go out and enjoy Rogue’s many other amazing brews and take a pass on this one in the future. clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2008 Bottle. This was a huge disappointment. It pours like an American Macro-lager, with only a slight cloudiness to show that it is an unfiltered wheat. There is a fluffy white head that dies pretty quickly and the color is a pale lager-like yellow. There is virtually no aroma, no hop aroma or wheat funky wanginess. The flavor is ok, not bad, but not great. It is a little strong with the spices without enough wheat/malt/hop flavor to balance the spice. Rogue is much better than this!!!!!!!!!! BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA Apr 9, 2008 Am I drinking a lager? This beer gets mediocre marks since it’s pretty boring for a weizen. Almost zero aroma, but at least it doesn’t smell bad (like the Hitachino Nest Weizen I had a while back). Clear and lager-yellow on first pour from 650ml bottle, 2nd pour looked better with some cloudiness, but some yeasty chunks on the bottom. Started off with a nice fluffy head, but that was gone in a matter of moments. No complexity to speak of, and ends slightly bitter. Fairly disappointing. I don’t think I’ll be having this again. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 3, 2008 My bottle says "Mom Hefeweizen". Either way it’s not very good. Aroma was almost non-existent. Pour was a nice swirling light cloudy gold with a 2 finger white head. Taste was very bland. Could definately taste the hops and a hint of tart wheat but that’s about it. The carbonation is so strong it drowns most of the flavor out. I could not detect any ginger or coriander at all. blipp (1632), Newark, New Jersey, USA Apr 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with a beige head. Sweet aroma with a note of citrus and a light note of spice. Medium body. Flavor is lightly sweet, almost perfumey, with a light note of fruit and grass. Very average, I was expecting more. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 30, 2008 Pours nice peach- cloudy with residual yeast. Two finger billowy head. Aroma of complex yeast, citrus, clove, and ginger. Taste was yeasty, with lemongrass and orange. A bit thin on the mouthfeel, but smooth and soft otherwise. Quite enjoyed this.
