jeffc666 (1885), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 11, 2005 Yellow hazy with a lasting white head. The aroma is a bit bizarre. Nutty, spicy, grassy and buttery. Not what I expected at all. The flavor is more of the same but with some orange peel and lemon thrwon in for good measure. The palate is dry and medium light. The saaz work pretty well but I am not a fan of the spicing level. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 11, 2005 Bottle. Dark yellow, small white head. Slight fruity aroma, but rather muted. More fruit in taste and lots of ginger! Ginger dominated really. There is an after taste that is almost berry like as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little syrupy. A nice refreshing wheat ginger beer (I know that is not a style exactly) with fruity notes. Nothing to blow you away but enjoyable on a warm day. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 11, 2005 Bottle from the LCBO-Pours a sparkling gold body with just a tough of yellow cloudiness. Head is bleached white and thick. Aromas are hoppy, herbal, with some clove and slight fruit. Taste is hoppy bitterness, some sweetness, molasses. Sems to be a mixture of a lager and a wheat beer. Pretty good. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2005 Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy (then I realized it was Rogue and then, not surprised), grass and some butteryness too. Flavor has notes of hops, pale malt, citrus/grapefruit/lemon and a tiny hint of caramel. Didn’t pick up any wheat though. Thin bodied and very fizzy. eh. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jul 10, 2005 Bottle: Light cloudy golden straw colored beer with a thin white head. There’s not much complexity to the aroma - mostly a light sour lemon, mild yeast, and clove with no corriander in the nose. Taste really showcases the corriander right up front, I was surprised at how much the spice flavor came out. There’s also a solid yeast flavor, pepper, sweat, grass, sweet light malts, and wheat. Slightly watery light-medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation that perfectly fits the beer. Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Jul 10, 2005 Cloudy golden colour with thing white head. Subtle aroma with a very light yeastiness and light ginger hints. I don’t find the ginger or corriander to over powering. Slight ginger in flavoiur however I find that the bitterness of the beer mutes the corriander creamy body with an oiliness on the way down. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 10, 2005 Another well-carbonated Rogue beer, but I find this to be the lowest offering from the brewery to date. Half-A Weizen has a deep gold color that is quite unlike any hefe I’ve come across. Aroma is somewhat faint but pleasant, with a clean mealy, bready element at the fore. The flavor is completely different though: it presents a "half-assed" fusion of flavors with the weizen nature rather overwhelmed by the spices, mainly ginger (powder) and perhaps orange peel. Body of the beer is a bit heavy for a hefe. Cheap ginger powder aftertaste. They may do better to make the body heavier by adding malt and make this into a Christmas ale. However, some decent hops show through in this beer and though there are better out there, one or two of these might be good on a hot summer day before a meal. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 2, 2005 Pleasant, but nothing outstanding. The half-wheat idea is a novel one but it’s not very obvious -- it’s a bit like a watery Weizen with a bit of pine thrown in.
