DrunkenWeasel (218), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 12, 2005 Updated: Mar 14, 2005Pours a yellowish gold with fizzy carbonation and only a thin amount of fizzy head (thin for a wheat beer anyway). Cloudy on the inside but no particles. Smelled of Moderate malts and some hops slight yeast smell too. Tasted nice not too deep but neat. Aftertaste was awesome bitter then a sweet finish. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Mar 11, 2005 RBSG 2004, Portland, draught at Rogue brewpub.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy medium yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of coriander and white grape.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Pretty good for an American wheat, but still rather mild and bland to be very enjoyable. xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA Mar 6, 2005 At Rogue public house in Portland: Pours hazy gold, with a cream head that vanishes quickly. Typical murky appearance. Maybe it was the batch I had, but the aroma was faint. Taste was pleasant, some spice to this wheat brew, slightly sweet as well. Finishes smooth and very refreshing. BrockLanders (747), Panama City, Florida, USA Mar 2, 2005 A surprise offering at the base class VI store. Pours a golden color with a tall cream colored head. Nose is surprisingly spicy...coriander, ginger and a mild pale malt aroma. Taste is nicely bitter with that ginger spice alll over the flavor. Finish is bitter, and pleasant. This one surprised me.....it’s not my favorite Rogue, but it wasn’t too bad. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Feb 21, 2005 Light gold color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is grassy and grainy, slightly sweet. A light to medium bodied American wheat. Malts are grassy and grainy. Slight touch of banana and clove. Slightly spicy hops. Lots of grain and grass. Crisp and clean. Light and refreshing. Not a typical Hefe or American Wheat. Sort of the Rogue take on the style, it a little hoppier and spicier than one would expect and has that typical Rogue yeasts going for it as well. Nice. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 13, 2005 Surpprisng differences of opinion on this one. Maybe the brewers mixed things in a way that surprises, or even disappoints, many truly sophisticated beer drinkers? It’s like a Belgian, with coriander and ginger; it’s got a German sounding name, which would never happen with coriander or ginger, and it uses Saaz hops, which seems oddly out of place with Belgian spicing. I like the spritz of the extreme carbonation, and the refreshing lemony wheaty taste. i was surprised by the pilsner salty finish of the Saaz. Still, I agree that it would work really well after yard work, or with pizza, or barbeque. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Feb 13, 2005 slightly cloudy yellow with a giant fluffed white head. slightly odd aroma of lemon and coriander with a sourness that i don’t like. taste is hefe like if a bit watered down. lemon notes and an acisic grassy hop taste that melds into a finish that is more bitter. jus10cider82 (67), Wichita, Kansas, USA Feb 13, 2005 (650 bottle/shaker) Milky medium golden pour with white frothy head. No visible carbonation and small amount of residue at bottom of bottle. Smells slightly of citrus and malt. Taste doesn’t differ much from nose. A little bit of hops thrown in the mix. A rather light tasting beer that would be good for a day of work in the yard.
