A- Pours a nice dark brown with creamy light brown head that is small and mostly lasting, fair lacing that does not stick to the glass
S- Warm, delicious nose that is dominated by roasty and toasty malts, hazelnut tones (of course), as well as a hint of toffee and vanilla; truly an amazing and fun aroma that I feel exceeds most other brown ales
T- Not a disappointment as hazelnut maltiness is pervasive throughout, some mild bitterness intially that is followed by sweet chocolate, toffee, and coffee; duration is short and malty; no noticeable alcohol taste
M- Surprisingly underwhelming mouthfeel that is quite watery and light for this genre, soft carbonation; the gap in quality between taste and mouthfeel is surprising
D- Low abv and delicious aroma makes this a great choice for a post-dinner/evening drink, I could get plenty of mileage sipping and smelling this tasty quaff, but several pints in a row would not pose much of a problem GardenGabe (125), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 Lovely redish brown. Creamy but quickly fadding head. Strong flavor of nut and malt. Surprisingly it is not too sweet. Initially it is seems to have a decent mouth feel but quickly it thins almost to a water. Really too thin; although I suppose that is typical of a brown ale. This beer is really rich and on ecould only dirnk so much of it. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a light tan head of poor duration, pleasant lacing, over a clear reddish brown body....nose is of nuts with some malt additions......tastes initial taste is malt with hazelnut, then a bit of cherry, finishing with a bit of hop bitterness aided by roasted nut, Mouthfeel is surprisingly light. A rich malty nutty ale. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle shared by Kevin thefle. Pours a brown body with a thin off white head. Nose is lightly hoppy, chestnuts, nutty and lightly bitter. Flavor has a huge emphasis on the hazelnut sweetness, and vanilla notes. Dominated by loads of hazelnut reminiscent of the D&D extract. Odd, im not really a fan of hazelnut but i didnt mind this at all, i drank the other 7/8ht of the bomber, thanks broski. For what rogue set out to do i think they nailed it, i wouldnt drink this regularly by any means, still i never found this to be cloying but i regress. heroincredible (5), melvindale, Michigan, USA does not count Feb 6, 2009 pours very fizzy, the head dissipates almost immediately. looks slightly watered down in the glass. excellent aroma, warm and nutty. tastes of coffee, slightly chocolaty, a lot of hazelnut. i would’ve liked this to be less watery, but the gorgeous way all the flavours work together go far to redeem this beer in my eyes. thefle (111), , New Jersey, USA Feb 6, 2009 gross, gross, gross. what is the point of this beer? It tastes like some other weak beer combined with way to much generic flavoring that tries to come off as nutty. hated this, never again. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Feb 6, 2009 Dark brown with a one finger light tan head. Minor lacings. Aroma is bready and hazelnut.
Taste is lightly sweet malts, nutty, light cocoa, some earthy hops. Mouthfeel is average, drinkability is very good. Nice medium dry bittersweet finish. Very nice pour highly recommended beer.
