Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Feb 4, 2009 The pour was brown with virtually no head and no lacing. The aroma was roasted chocolate malts, light nuttiness, some earth and citrus hops. The flavor was roasty malts, thin chocolate light hops and some nuttiness. The mouthfeel was thin to medium in body and I noticed some light grittiness. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Jan 28, 2009 This one didn’t turn me on too much, brown ales do that a lot of the time and this one with the hazelnut didn’t seem to help. Looked ok in the glass though the head didn’t hang around, caramel mainly stood out in the aroma and also in the taste with the nuts playing a secondary role. jimel001 (34), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 28, 2009 One of my favorite brown ales. Love the appearance and the rich nutty hazelnut aroma. The flavor is rich but not overbearing, with a sweet yet smooth finish. Rogue produces yet another winner. scotch4281 (39), Hollywood, Florida, USA Jan 25, 2009 I love coffee. I love malt. I love beer. This is a great combination of the three plus a nice hazelnut flavor. This beer has a smooth texture and is in no way bitter. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jan 24, 2009 Aroma is malty, hazelnut, toffee, lighly biscuity. The appearance is reddish brown, tan head, clear body. The flavor is awesome, immediate hazelnut up front, malts, caramel, then sliding into chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium, slightly on the thick side. On the palate there is a modest hop bitterness, making for a clean finish. There is a lingering hazelnut flavor, which is pleasant. Definitely near the top of the brown ale style. ant880 (39), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 19, 2009 This is among the best brown ales I have tasted. Color is a deep brown, hazelnut aroma is present but not over powering. Taste is a nice mix of hazelnut and malt. If you like brown ales this is a must try. scoth (267), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Jan 19, 2009 Pours rich medium-brown, with a thick tan head, good lacing. Smells of hazel
nut, caramel, with some subtle notes of coffee and raisins. Medium, velvety and crisp body. Bit malt flavor up front, lots of sweet hazelnut, caramel, even creamy, with a little citrus in the aftertaste. The hop characteristics are very
subdued. Well balanced and drinkable. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Jan 18, 2009 I expected a lot more from Rogue, this tastes like any other macrobrew Brown ale, but with a slight Hazelnut smell. And I hate hazelnut.
