Aroma: Yes - Hazelnuts, yeast, chocolate. Flavour: Malty - nutty, some slight vanilla too. Interesting. Somewhat dry finish. As it warms up I can taste the hazelnut more and more. Delicious. VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 26, 2008 650 ml bottle - pours a dark mahogany with a slightly beige head. Aroma of nutella, some toasted malt, chocolate. Beautiful, not cloying. Flavour full and silky smooth - wonderful malts, milk chocolate with some dry nuttiness. A slight oiliness as well. Slightly bitter finish. A beautiful, beautiful beer. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 26, 2008 Updated: Nov 29, 2008650mL bomber from the LCBO. Poured a nice brownish amber with a large light mocha head. This beer smells absolutely AWESOME. One of the best smelling beers I’ve ever come across. Perfect malted barley profile, bready, worty, a touch roasty, with definite nuttiness, the promised hazelnut is a main character. I could sniff this all night and be content. Flavour is really big on the nutty aspects, with a touch of vanilla being a strong tag along to the whole party. Less barley flavour than I was hoping for after the aroma, but still some decent malts in there. Minor milk chocolate, as well as maybe some rye bread. Really not much hops to speak of, and usually I’m very perceptive of Saaz. The malt profile of this nectar is a pretty all-star line up, and they all blend together so seamlessly, with only the Crystals perhaps standing out a bit more than the rest. This stuff is just absolutely delicious! Ported (67), Ontario, Canada Sep 26, 2008 Dark brown with a nice tan head that dissapates quickly. Big nutty aroma/flavour, with some nice malts and a touch of hops, bread, brown sugar and chocolate. Pretty well balanced, not overly carbonated, and leaves a nice nut and malt aftertaste. Good stuff! m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours with a dark brown hue, with a nice light brown head that is pretty large when poured, but surely dissipates after sitting for a minute to a minute and a half. Hue is murky as well.
Aroma is of nuts, lots of nuts - it is the most dominant smell in the aroma. I can also smell hints of very light dark fruits, and some sweet malt.
Flavor is rich and tastes of nuts - almonds and hazel nuts, wheat bread (maybe 12 grain), carmel, and maybe some coffee.
Flavor is pretty consistent throughout - a tiny bit bitter on the finish, but to the slightest possible degree.
Lively carbonation, with a light - light syrupy feel to the palate.
Wow what a great beer! This is definitely worth buying again! matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Sep 25, 2008 bomber from the LCBO. pours brown with a nice tan head that lingers and laces beautifully. aromas of nut, chocolate, sweet malts. solid flavour profile with the nut aspects working into the malt structure of a very nice brown ale. ill be back for more of this one. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 21, 2008 Nutty malt aroma with little to no head and a solid brown color. Rich nutty flavor of hazelnut, rye bread, and brown sugar. Good carbonation with a mild even palate.
