McGarnigle (303), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bomber, no date. Is this really a winter seasonal? Pours unsurprising dark brown in which you can see red when held to the light. Aroma hints at hops, but on the tongue, it’s the roastiness that distinguishes. Sort of chocolatey (Nutella?). Balanced so as not to be too sweet. Body is somewhat light. Still, very tasty. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Jun 24, 2008 Pours ruby brown with tan head. Hazelnut aroma with notes of maple, wood, and some slight dark fruit. Flavor is subtle with notes of hazelnut, maple, wood, and slight roasted malt. Palate is rich and creamy with light carbonation. ericandersnavy (1039), crossroads, Texas, USA Jun 23, 2008 bottle thanks to Metzlers, Denton TX. poured a clear amber/copper with tan head. aroma was that of malt, wood, and slight nuttyness. flavor was equally as impressive with the malt, nutty flavor and thought i picked up some dark fruit notes. this one is good!!! Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Jun 22, 2008 Bottle, thanks to ericandersnavy.
Pours a clear ruby brown with beige head. Aroma of maple, wood, with faint nutty notes. Flavor is semi-sweet with maple, wood, and nice hazelnut. Has medium body with medium carbonation. Very good! EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Jun 19, 2008 Bomber. Nutty aroma with roast malt, wood, and grain husk, a little bit of a cereal quality. They’re not lying, there’s a lot of hazelnut here. Ruby-brown body, dark but still translucent, with a soapy tan head. Malty, butty, lightly sweet and only slightly bitter taste, a woody, slightly sour faint roast drying out a bit around the teeth toward the end. Medium body, maybe even thinner with that, and a bit unbalanced - where are the hops? The sweet nuttiness is nice here, and she’s a good session, but this beer is massively overrated. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jun 11, 2008 1/7/08 notes: on tap, Yard House. Amazingly smooth, nutty and mellow brown ale. Features nutty flavors, roasted hazelnut and a bit of brown sugar. In addition, the hops keep the flavor clean and balance the sweet. A little light on the overall flavor, but could’ve just been the tap. Still tops my list for browns. IN BOTTLE: 4/1/08 notes: pours a light brown with one finger head. Soft carbonation that matches a gently nutty, malty, semi-sweet flavor. Really enjoyed the subtlety, along with the comforting hazelnut finish. Great beer. kurtkosher (144), USA Jun 10, 2008 pours a dark brownish color color with a head that disappears quickly. aroma is of hazelnots and caramel. has a strong hazelnut flavor GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Jun 8, 2008 Pours opaque dark amber with a fast dissipating tan head. Aroma is intoxicating blend of the hazelnut and maple syrup. The flavor is nearly as great, nice and nutty, with a bready, toasted malt backbone. The palate is creamy and sticky. This is what a brown ale should taste like.
