Felsenbrau (19), Middletown, Ohio, USA Apr 19, 2008 Pours a clear dark amber with a thin light tan head and very little lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel and nuts. Flavor is sweet, not overpoweringly, not very complex. Clean, not very heavy, more nut flavors appear as it warms. Easy to drink, not much complexity of character. BrewmeisterEd (59), USA Apr 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy tan with a dense head - aromas of honey and maple (maybe that’s the hazelnut??) A bit under carbonated relative to a lot of ales, but it worked for this brew - allowing the malty flavor to shine through without blasting you with bubbles. The malt presence reminds me of unprocessed malt extract you lick off the cans when making home-brew - heavier sweetness than a lot of beer, but not overdone. Good brew spud1987 (46), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Apr 16, 2008 Poured dark cloudy amber. Off white head dissipates quickly. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, sweetness and some nuttiness. Flavor is nutty and some chocolate. Overall, not a bad ale, but not my favorite either. Brown ales in general are not my favorite style. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Apr 15, 2008 65 cl bottle, at my «Hopheads» tasting. Reddish brown color, beige head. Aroma is very caramellish. Flavor is chocolate malt and nuts. Nice, but not ass good as i expected. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Apr 14, 2008 on tap @ papago. dark chestnut brown pour with orange at the edges. it’s got a small off white head that disappears to a ring rather quickly. aromas of toasted hazelnut syrup, caramel/toffee and some grassy hops. the flavor is definitely fake hazelnut but not really in a terrible way. notes of toffee, chocolate and grassy hops as well. light bodied but it has lively carbonation which makes it insanely drinkable. it’s not as bad as my rating would indicate, i’m just not down with flavorings... troopie (851), USA Apr 12, 2008 Draught. Poured deep rich brown with a thin quickly dissipating head. Nutty and malty aroma. Malty body, with a strong hazelnut present. Sweetish finish, with more hazelnut. Satisfying, but one’s enough at a session. mattmc1973 (301), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Apr 12, 2008 22oz bottle, pours dark brown with a tan head, mostly dissipates and leaves no lacing. Nutty and coffee aroma. Taste is coffee, hazelnut, slight hops, and chocolate. A good refreshing brown ale! kieleszd (83), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Apr 12, 2008 The color speaks brown and red, the head is full and steady. The flavor is in tune, with the hazelnut strong, but not overpowering. This is one of Rogues best brews putting in the running weith the worlds best.
