badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Dark brown with a red hue to it, has a almost tan colored head that leaves no lacing. Smell, as expected is very nutty, hazelnut and I thought maybe even a cocoa smell to it. Taste is definately full of hazelnut and I notice the cocoa more in the taste than the smell, with a hint of coffee in the finish. Light in body and highly carbonated, this is a good beer that I can see myself having again. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2007 Appearance is a little lacking, but it still holds a little lacing and a crisp brown color.
The smell is very sweet and reminds me of a coffee, an irish cream splashed with a little mocha cocoa.
The taste is sweet with slight bitter cocoa with traces of irish cream in the nose.
Mouthfeel is fine: not silky smooth, but not hard and watery.
Drinkability is, for me, not enough to go out and buy more, but enough to wait until I feel the need or craving again and the opportunity arrises. elelwarren (138), SF Bay area, California, USA Dec 22, 2007 Solstice party in Canyon, CA. Bottle. Pours dark brown with lovely, thick head into pint glass. Lacing throughout drink. Smells like malts, plums, applesauce. Taste is rich, malty, and ends with the hazelnut essence. No hops. Creamy as a thick Latte. Ate this with some salty aged Gruyere and after each bite, the flavor of the beer intensified. Awesome & sublime & can’t wait to try with other foods. No alcohol flavor whatsoever. exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA Dec 21, 2007 Bottle. Poured a very dark brown with a two finger tan head. Very rich hazelnut nose, almost as if it’s more a coffee creamer than a beer. Very interesting beer, although I think the hazelnut flavor overpowers much of the finer qualities of beer. Surprised that theres almost no hint of alcohol in this beer. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 21, 2007 On tap at the Bocktown, nice place. Some barely detectable roasty hints inthe aroma. Has the look of a darker cream soda. Some mild chocolate hints in the flavor and you cannot tell this is a 6.2% beer. Well hidden. Fairly enjoyable with little bitterness. Other Hazelnut brews I’ve had were way to hazelly for me but this comes across rather gentleman like. Very mild creamy carbonation and it is barely present. Overall, not bad and fairly friendly. Easy to drink with no medicinal finish. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Dec 19, 2007 Thick and creamy head sits on a red/brown colored beer. Malty sweetness with a little nutiness. Nutty sweetness also in the aroma.
KawaBomber (193), New Jersey, USA Dec 18, 2007 22oz Bottle: Cloudy brownish amber w/ a very small light brown head. Very sweet aroma. Malty, nutty & almost buttery. Aroma is amazing...I know I have to taste, but the aroma. Ah yes. Flavor. Roasted malts followed by a nutty, buttery goodness, then the roasted malts again. Not unlike the aroma. Slightly dry finish. Smooth, very smooth. A little creamy, nice carbonation & that aroma, my god...the aroma is friggin amazing. Great job by Rogue here...great beer! msiano (30), Belmar, New Jersey, USA Dec 17, 2007 Wine-King, Manasquan.. nice dark Amber color with a decent pale brown head. had a smooth dark hoppy taste that wasn’t over powering. I don’t know were the Hazelnut comes in because I didn’t taste any.
