Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Nov 28, 2007 Man, I was disappointed with this beer. I’m wondering if I got a bad bottle or something. It poured just like everyone else said, nice brown color with a tan head.
After smelling the aroma, I just knew I was in for a treat here. Very nutty and warm smelling.
I’m thinking this was an old bottle or something. It tasted like a Bud Light or something. I was expecting nuances of the hazelnut flavor, maybe some malt. I didn’t get any of that. Tasted rather watery and thin. Big letdown here. I will probably try this again in the future to make sure I’m giving this a fair shake but after seeing all of the high marks this was getting, I picked this over the Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout and I’m pissed that I did now. First Rogue beer I’ve ever had and I didn’t get started on the right foot here. Big disappointment here. JamesMulvenon (21), USA Nov 27, 2007 Updated: Jul 9, 2008Had this on draft at My Father’s Office in Santa Monica, CA, a great beer bar. Despite standing in a crowd with no elbow room, this beer was a religious experience, especially for a real lover of brown ales. Flavor was definitely nutty, but also strong caramel and chocolate as well that just exploded in your mouth. Easily the best tasting beer I have ever sampled. NJBeerman013 (764), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Nov 27, 2007 22 oz bomber. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a nutty colored head. You can really smell the hazlenut aroma mixed with a bit of chocolate. The flavor is huge. The nuttiness is balanced with a touch of tang from the hops but is accented beautifully by the malty sweetness. Awesome. DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Nov 26, 2007 One of the best beers I’ve had. It pours a brown color and smell of nuts. Smooth and creamy from beginnning to end. Excellent nutty taste. This one will be bought again. timfoolery (482), California, USA Nov 25, 2007 Poured a dark brown with medium head. Smelled and tasted of hazelnuts and malt. It was a very smooth brew on the front and backend. Overall, one of the best beers I’ve had. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Nov 25, 2007 (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 24 Nov 2007) Dark reddish brown colour with brief head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of toffee, chocolate, wild berries and hazelnuts. Malty, nutty taste with dark fruit, prunes, hazelnuts and hints of chocolate. Low bitterness, hints of sweetness. Nice beer, but lacking some punch. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 24, 2007 Wow! That lives up to its name. Deep brown pour, very fine bubbles and head, gorgeous. Wonderful hazelnut aroma with some malt, and maple syrup. The flavor mactches... very sweet and smooth, malty, nutty, and some chocolate? Unfortunately the palate just lets this beer down... the carbonaton is spot on but the body is sooo weak. victory (45), Pennsylvania, USA Nov 24, 2007 Chocolate and hazelnut. malty. Just an overall delicious beer. A standout from a solid brewer.
