Touche (57), New York, USA Aug 10, 2007 pours beautiful reddish brown with tan head. rich hazelnut toffee smell that i absolutely love. Tastes rich in hazelnut with toffee and malty finish. Easily my favorite brown! Sweet but well balanced Goodgrief (1147), Middletown, Delaware, USA Aug 8, 2007 This is a very unique beer. MUCH better as it warms. Not much of a head, but decent lacing. Nutty aroma almost jumps out of the glass at you. Wonderfully complex, rich taste of molasses and hazelnut. Hoppy, but not overdone. Tastes THICK. Definitely a beer to remember and try again. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Oct 13, 2009old rating:

pours a hazy brown with a thin khaki head, and some lacing.
smells of malt, caramel, nuts, some spice, chocolate, a bit of coffee, and a roastiness.
taste is creamy and smooth, burnt toffee, brown sugar, nuts, some cocoa, and a little spice, ends tangy, and slightly bitter. KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Aug 25, 2008bottle: Thanks to Lord Beamish for sharing this one. The best brown ale I have had by far. Sometimes the nut flavour can be overwhelming in a brown ale, but not this one. I couldn’t get over how cloudy this beer was. I love quality malts & when I read the allstar lineup brought in for this beer, it doesn’t suprise me. This is going to make it tough to drink just any sub par brown ale from now on. LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Aug 7, 2007 bottle: Wow! This is quite possibly the best brown ale I have ever had. Pours a deep dark brown with tan head. A comforting nutty aroma leads the way into a taste sensation. Extremely flavourful. The nuttiness is balanced out with some superior malts which prevent this ale from finishing bitter. My only dissapointment is that I only bought one bottle while in Michigan. An excellent beer! jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 4, 2007 I was not a big fan of this one this time around. Almost tasted like hazelnut syrup like the one they would put in your coffee at starbux. Nice color and nice creamy consistency otherwise but I couldn’t get past the sweetness of this one. Guerde (696), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Aug 2, 2007 (bottle, thanks Philsner) Pours an amber brown with an off-white head. Aroma is of toasted hazelnut, and also a strong smell of fresh-baked cornbread with honey butter spread over it. Taste is very much filled with the hazelnut, with a nice sweet finish and just a faint touch of hops. Medium body. Pretty good. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Aug 2, 2007 [Bottle, thanks Philsner] Pours reddish brown with a light tan head. Aroma is strongly of hazelnut with notes of something sweet--maybe honey. Taste is roughly the same with the sweetness a little more pronounced and faint hops. Fairly high carbonation. Medium-light body. Decent finish. A good brown ale.
