illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 20, 2007 Draft at the Downtown Broadway Brewhouse. Pours opaque brown with a small beige head. Aroma of hazelnut, malt, and cookie dough. Medium bodied with a light but subtle earthy texture. Initial flavor of vanilla, and hazelnut that transitions to more of a creme and chocolate middle, with a hint of nuts. Not overly sweet, but enough to accent the flavors. Mild amount of bitterness to bring it into balance on the finish. Nice beer. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 17, 2007 650ml bottle, slight hazy brown hue, with a beige head, but falls quickly, sweet toasted maltiness nose, with an intense caramelized hazelnut nuttiness accent, with a buttery chestnut note, a cookie dough, with a faint nutmeg spicy aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice creamy buttery hazelnut character, with a smooth chestnut nutty accent, some sweet toasted malts, with a caramelized toffeeish note, with a mild chocolatey hazelnut nutella flavor, leading towards a nutty, malty finish. Myfathersson (2), Wyoming, Michigan, USA does not count Jul 16, 2007 I really had high hopes for this beer as it scored so highly in everything I have read about it. Unfortunately this was a huge disappointment.
When I saw it looked like root beer in the glass I should have stopped there. The nose is nutty with a strong malt component. Feels thin and over carbonated in the mouth. The flavor coats your tongue in nuttiness and finishes strongly with a *blech* factor.
I will admit that I am a hop-head, and I was hard-pressed to find anything nice to say about this beer. This one is definitely NOT for the hop lover. Mutualaid (136), Texas, USA Jul 15, 2007 Pours dark brown (surprise) with a rich beige head. Aromas of caramel and banana nut bread with a bit of a floral hop bouquet. This beer needs to be consumed a bit warmer than most, I think. Good nutty honey-like flavor; hops really make themselves known in the flavor. Less body than I expected, but not a problem. Finishes smooth. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 15, 2007 Updated: Jul 16, 2007Pours a clear brown with a tan head. Aroma is an enticing mix of hazelnut and vanilla. However, this beer completely falls apart upon tasting. It has the consistency of seltzer water, and the taste, which is a nice hazelnut in the beginning, goes absolutely nowhere afterward. A total disappointment; I felt like I was drinking nutty soda. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2007 Not a great brown ale; why did this score so high? Pour was a nice deep brown with a little one finger off white head. Aroma of malt and not much else. Flavor was caramel and some nuts...roasted malt mostly, though. Caramel in the afftertaste. Medium carbonation.Average. kopher (296), New York, USA Jul 14, 2007 Very nutty aroma, with roasty malt and chocolate. Flavor is a bit more mild, mostly malt and a bit of caramel, but tons of hazelnut in the finish. Good medium body and carbonation, slightly oily. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2007 first beer i had of the night. i was very impressed with this compared to the others i had.
