Given my love of smokier, roastier (or caramelly + hoppy = Poppy Jasper) Brown Ales, and relative dislike of nutty Browns, I approached this with some trepidation. No worries...a fine beer here, to be sure. Has a lot to recommend it; a fair palate, although pretty carbonated (too much?), a good hop finish. In the end, however, it is just far too hazelnutty for my tastes. Aroma, flavor finish, all over this thing you will find hazelnut. My wife would even like it in her morning coffee, I’m sure.

Draft at the Downtown Broadway Brewhouse. Pours opaque brown with a small beige head. Aroma of hazelnut, malt, and cookie dough. Medium bodied with a light but subtle earthy texture. Initial flavor of vanilla, and hazelnut that transitions to more of a creme and chocolate middle, with a hint of nuts. Not overly sweet, but enough to accent the flavors. Mild amount of bitterness to bring it into balance on the finish. Nice beer.

Bottle. Dark amber body with a loose one finger beige head. Coffee, nut, and malt flavors are dominant. Tastes like a mixture of 25% porter and 75% brown ale. Quite enjoyable.

Can’t figure out why, having had this so many times, that I neglected to rate it. Deep garnet body with a small brown head. Nice roasted nut aroma, vanilla notes, malted Whoppers. Full bodied and creamy in the mouth. Same notes in the flavor as in the aroma. Had this once with a shot of Frangelica in it. Awesome.

Labeled Rogue Morimoto HazelNut Ale. Pours a clear brown with a beige head. Sweet and malty. Some port-likeness. Has a hint of sweet liquirish. Creamy fullness. Roasted, coffeeish finish. Nice one, though it has a not-so-good hint of sourness.

Deep brown of color with a brown head. An aroma of chocolate, caramel and dry notes of nuts. A flavor of caramel, chocolate, weak coffe notes and a dry finish with nuts.

Dark brown. Nice fluffy head. Moderate carbonation. Robust chocolatey nutty aroma. Man this stuff really smells great. I didn’t know what a hazelnut tasted like until I took a drink of this. I like hazelnuts. The choclateyness really works well with the nuttyness. This medium bodied beer seems to stick around in you mouth for a while. Man this is good. Probably the best Rogue ale I’ve tried so far.
