Keg at the Rogue bar, PDX Flughafen, 12/11/14.
Clear golden amber with moderate off white spotting and edgework.
Nose is caramel malt forward, candied orange peel, bitter hops, light booze tunes.
Taste comprises orange pith, bitter hoppy wash, grapefruit, mandarina, pine, caramel malt - less so than the aroma dictated.
Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg at the drygate. Pours clear golden amber, merest white head that appears to be forming into a map of Scotland. I know where I am now at least. Aromas are lemon verbena, floral, light syrup. Taste is light bitter, floral notes, almost perfumed and quite intense. Sweet, syrupy finish. Ok.

A complex aroma of cucumber, melon, hops and citrus with a cloudy amber color and an off white head. Interesting taste of hips and melon with a hint o cucumber. Dry feel with a slightly bitter floral citrus finish.0

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
This beer is not in front of me right now but I have had this several times, the first being back in 1999 long before I would ever see another imperial IPA. A very unique hop profile with the refreshing quench of the saaz and the cascade pine and earthy EKG, well balanced malt backbone. The recipe may have changed since the commercial listing but I remember that formula well as it was the first beer I tried to copy in a homebrew recipe to achieve those hop flavors. Very unique from what west coast IPA hop profiles are like.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap, poured into a goblet. Aromas of resin, grass, and citrus greet the nose, along with a touch of bread crust and honey. It’s a clear, effervescent, oily orange yellow beer topped by a soapy, medium thin ring and wispy surface. A light lace is left aling the glass. The taste is a rather well balanced medium high bitter and sweet. It’s full bodied with fizzy carbonation. The texture is viscous and contains flavors of citrus (in abundance), moderate pine, bread crust, honey, with mild spicy pine finish. The spice is a bit stronger in the aftertaste and has a somewhat burnt note to it.

"this is a big and chewy imperial ipa...wish they didn’t switch to ceramic bottles at $12 a pop. oh well. a little bitter, and less floral/aromatic than i like, but still a good beer. nice biscuity malty backbone. just not a good value."

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The beer pours to a cloudy copper color with very little head. The aroma has a floral resin scent to it with a background alcohol flavor. The taste is medium body with a good amount of bitterness on the finish. Overall a good DIPA.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
It poured a hazy golden/brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was of resinous citrus and piney hops, with a boozy caramel malt backbone. The taste was similar with lots of booze and malts, and still plenty of hops. Nice.

An I2PA (aka, Imperial India Pale Ale). This one is packed full of delicious hop flavor, and a ton of alcohol by volume. Definitely one of Rogue’s best. Highly recommended.
