Nose is beautiful with roasted malt, brown sugar and molasses. Pour is thick and black. Taste is nice with hints of roasted malt, chocolate, an coffee. Mouthfeel is medium while the taste is similar to an imperial stout, the porter isn't nearly as thick. Overall very good

2008 bottle. Pours very dark with a bit of a head when forced and then quickly dissipates. Nose is chocolate with subtle soy sauce which I couldn’t immediately identify but identified after reading another review...couldn’t find it in the taste however. Taste was mostly coffee, malt and dry hop finish. Overall nice beer although not exactly what I expected of the style.

Shared with Chicago Mike and Dan. Soft chocolate aromas. Soft chocolate flavor. Overall a pretty decent porter.

2008 Bottle. Pours Jet black with a foamy coffee colored head. Light lacing. Surprising amount of hops and alcohol in the nose. Roasted malt, dark fruit and chocolate dominate the flavor, with a dry hoppy finish. Medium body, Reminds me of a Barley Wine that needs to age. But very unique. I see a lot ratings talking about hops....Maybe this aged too much to taste them?

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a deep black with a nice mocha head with a bit of staying power, especially for the style. The nose brings forward some roasted malt and coffee as well as some light chocolate and a bit of booze. The flavor is booze, roasted chocolate, and some dark malt. Medium to full body with good carbonation and some alcohol. Drinks fairly well, but is a bit boozy.

Holly Fuck, I cracked this little baby with a well known wine maker mate of mine from McLaren Vale SA Australia who thought we had justed opened up a bottle of liquid vegimite. Probably not the right beer to start his introduction into the Rogue range. However it was f’n excellent. Bigger than Johnny Holmes it wasnt till day 3 that I realised what the complexity was all about. Thank you Rogue you have a new desciple.
Cheers

26 oz ceramic bottle, 2008. Dark brown with a big spongy tan head. Nose is licorice, chocolate, hay, molasses and prune. Medium body with fizzy carb. Taste is hoppy chocolate, coffee bean, lime peel and black olive. A well-rounded imperial porter and my first appearance on a Top Raters by Style list.

2008 flip top clay bottle painted gray. Shared with friends while watching football. Pours deep and dark, a little viscous as the bubbles push their way through the beer to the surface. Nose of dark chocolate and hint of soy sauce. Tastes of more dark chocolate, soy sauce, and strong coffee, with a bit of hop bitterness. 8.2%, but has the alcohol taste of a good 10-12% beer. Good beer but next time I will definately buy more Double Dead Guy instead.
