Commercial Description:
JLS Release #16: Imperial Porter ~ for summer you ask? Why the hell not! This is not your average porter, this is not Mocha Porter. This is a huge mouthful of malt and hops. It has notes of bitter rich chocolate and hints of tar. A new hop variety called Summit was used to give it the perfect hop balance. This Porter is the Creme de la Creme! Unfiltered, Unrefined, Uncompromised. Imperial Porter is brewed with two row pale, Munich, dark crystal, chocolate and black malts; and 100% Summit hops. Original Gravity @ 18.7 degrees plato, Finishing Gravity @ 4.75 degrees plato, IBU’s around 60!

Dark black/brown with tan head. Chocolate roasty aroma. Roasy flavor, not burnt, creamy and chocolatey. Rich, smooth and comforting. Alcohol is noticable.

Black, clear brown at edges, very nice tan head lasts well. Aroma was pleasant, a mix of chocolate accented malts and pine and citric hops. Flavor was pretty much an exact match to this, perhaps with a hint of coffee mixed into the profile. Good stuff. As a completely unimportant and unrelated side note, seeing all these beers that are essentially American twists on Baltic Porter called American Strong Ales is driving me slowly crazy. It is making it very difficult to satisfactorily search for and compare these brews. This has a lot more in common with a Zywiec than it does Arrogant Bastard.

web site that this was to be released in april as a XS that was very similar to the mocha porter.
pours a jet black, very opaque, big frothy khaki head, excellent lacing.
smell was very apparent as soon as the cap was popped, milk chocolate, some licorice, malt.
taste is warming, dark and bakers chocolate, malt up front, licorice, some vanilla, bitter in the back, dry ending.

This pours a rich opaque sable with a fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is strong and like mocha with some smokiness. Flavor is mainly of roast coffee with a smoky undertone and hints of unsweetened chocolate. Smooth, silky texture leaves a chocolaty but not sweet aftertaste.

Tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours black with a large tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of smoke and ash. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good.

On tap at the Oldsmar Tap House. Pours deep dark with impressive firm mocha head. The foam head looks like the surface of the moon with various sized craters. The glass clings a consistent cobweb lacing. The aroma is mild with roastiness and a hint of dark fruity esters and faint chocolate. The taste starts mildly roasty with some chocolate. A burnt maltiness then grows and takes over the flavor by the finish with light notes of coffee, toffee and a hint of caramel. I think I was expecting it to be a bit bolder and richer.
