Medium sized tan head with good retention and a fair amount of sticky lace hanging around. Nose is lightly roasty, chocolatey and a little dusty. Medium almost full bodied brew, lightly oily on the palate, sorta chewy. Roast and chocolate up front, grainy notes, light pineyness, berrys, bittersweet, licoricey with a hint of smoke. Dry, roasty finish. A tastey little brew indeed. Drinks easy. Thanks again Robert! incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Im not sure about this one. Very thin mouthfeel. I didnt detect much in the way of malt or hops, or richness that usually goes with a baltic. I didnt get any bitterness that others have mentioned. I had this after two Darkness’s, so my pallate probably wasnt at its best. Might have to sample again. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is chocolate molasses and dried wood. Flavor is chocolate, spicy wood and dry earth. Smooth palate is medium bodied and just watery and drinkable enough to make you want several more. The beer pours from the tap a deep brown to almost black with ruby highlights, the head a deep tan color, creamy and a good two fingers in height, upon depletion, the lacing a thick sheet to obfuscate the glass. Nose is rich in toasted grain, hop floral, caramel, and a bit of chocolate, a real pleasure to sniff. Start has a toasted grain semi-sweetness, hops provide a nice bite, top is medium in feel. Finish has a respectable acidity, the hops have a scrumptious spiciness, somewhat sweet aftertaste hangs on for quite awhile, a damn good Porter, and well worth a sample.

Has a dry texture. Not just a hint of hops, but a whole lot of hops. Very smooth. An incredible beer. heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 19, 2007 On tap at The Sanctuary in Iowa City. The body is very dark and nearly black with a light brown head on tap. The aroma has a sweet chocolate character with some oranges and caramel. The taste is bitter dark chocolate with some orange rinds. There is also a little bit of bread crust. Solid brew and one of the better ones I have tried from Rogue. nimbleprop (844), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA

Poured a deep, opaque black with a creamy slightly tan head. Aroma was roasted malt, licorice, and coffee. Taste was surprisingly bitter, coffee, roasted malt, and alot more citrus than I expect out of a porter, especially an imperial porter. Finish was watery, I expected it to be thicker... some of that tar would have been nice. Overall, I expect more from Rogue and more from an Imperial/Baltic porter.
