4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Part of the Locker Stock Draft only series - Tap @ Max’s in B-more. Deep black, creamy lasting tan head. Rich nose of burnt chocolate, mild coffee, touches of citrus and toast, with a nice underlying port-like quality. Biiter chocolate and burnt citirc flavor tones are apparent on first sip and continue throughout. It still remains well layered with soft vinous tones aiming to balance. Seems to achieve in my book. Full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Glad to have a chance to try this. Nice brew that they should consider bottling.....I’d buy more of it....

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
draught. Rogue is not always reliable for producing top-notch beers, but when they attempt a huge take on a familiar American microbrew style, I have full faith in them. I was very excited about sampling this since I enjoy very much their other dark ales. This pours an ink black with a short-lived dark tan head. The aroma is packed with chocolate and slightly soured coffee and bright notes of piercing hops. Upon supping, my palate is pounded with soy sauce. I think the hop choice brings out even more of this soy sauce flavor by adding a sharp acidity that is almost construed as saltiness. The finish conjures up chocolatey notes and an espresso-smokiness is maintained throughout. I like the thickness in body this brew maintains. Great example of a huge porter, but it wasn’t as memorable as ,say, their imperial stout.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Barley’s. Pours stark black with creamy, well-lacing beige head. The aroma is rich chocolate with a little bit of plum, some interesting hop notes, and a wisp of alcohol. The flavor also boasts a great deal of chocolate, as well as a lot of piney hops. And there comes some caramel, orange peel, and occasional candy sweetness. It has a nice charcoal black-patent finish. The alcohol is somewhat detectable from time to time. The aftertaste is slightly bitter and smoky. Viscous, creamy mouthfeel.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black, thin brown head. Very chocolatey aroma, with notes of prune and some hints of blueberry. Smoooth & creamy body, with a pronounced chocolate flavor. Some burnt notes throughout. A bit of alcohol heat, too, and persistant fruity flavor through to the end. On tap at Barley’s, Knoxville.
