Commercial Description:
JLS Release #16: Imperial Porter ~ for summer you ask? Why the hell not! This is not your average porter, this is not Mocha Porter. This is a huge mouthful of malt and hops. It has notes of bitter rich chocolate and hints of tar. A new hop variety called Summit was used to give it the perfect hop balance. This Porter is the Creme de la Creme! Unfiltered, Unrefined, Uncompromised. Imperial Porter is brewed with two row pale, Munich, dark crystal, chocolate and black malts; and 100% Summit hops. Original Gravity @ 18.7 degrees plato, Finishing Gravity @ 4.75 degrees plato, IBU’s around 60!

On cask at Map Room. Pitch black w/ an almost red head, robust too; sweet, malty aroma w/ smoke and toffee; flavor is well-rounded, subtle balancing hops, slightly metallic, chocolate; finishes full, long and bitter. Full-bodied. Intriguing.

On tap; I think I had this one at Blue Palms. I thought I previously had it, but I was wrong. Color was dark brown to black with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa with a hint of caramel. Flavor was the same. Pretty chocolatey with some earthy hops, coffee/roasted malt and caramel. Good stuff.

On tap: The aroma is very fruity (lots of plum and some grape) with some light chocolate and citrus hops. It’s a dark brown with a small brown head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with lots of plum and light chocolate. The finish has some moderate citrus hoppiness and faint roast. Medium bodies with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. Reminds me of a hoppy Baltic Porter.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 03/09/2009. Clear very dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet chocolate, coffee and strong bitter aroma. Big chocolate, bitter and coffee flavor. Bitterness lasts long into the aftertaste. Full body with moderately low carbonation.

750ml ceramic bottle. Pours a dark, near-midnight black color with a deep, brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate. Flavor is creamy, smooth and roasted. Chocolate, malts and a nice touch of hops balance out this beer. Dry finish.

Black with a brown head. Good dark roasted malt, light cocoa aromas. Frothy mouthfeel. Very good dry blackened malt flavor with bitter bakers chocolate. A tasty dry Porter.

Black bodied with a residual brown topping. Richly complex chocolate aroma with some piquant hopping. Deep, baking chocolate, black patent and citrus hop. Chocolatey hopped body with black patent and hop bitterness wrestling each other at the finish. Some dryness, and yes, a touch of tar.
