Commercial Description:
JLS Release #16: Imperial Porter ~ for summer you ask? Why the hell not! This is not your average porter, this is not Mocha Porter. This is a huge mouthful of malt and hops. It has notes of bitter rich chocolate and hints of tar. A new hop variety called Summit was used to give it the perfect hop balance. This Porter is the Creme de la Creme! Unfiltered, Unrefined, Uncompromised. Imperial Porter is brewed with two row pale, Munich, dark crystal, chocolate and black malts; and 100% Summit hops. Original Gravity @ 18.7 degrees plato, Finishing Gravity @ 4.75 degrees plato, IBU’s around 60!

Black with a brown head. Good dark roasted malt, light cocoa aromas. Frothy mouthfeel. Very good dry blackened malt flavor with bitter bakers chocolate. A tasty dry Porter.

Black bodied with a residual brown topping. Richly complex chocolate aroma with some piquant hopping. Deep, baking chocolate, black patent and citrus hop. Chocolatey hopped body with black patent and hop bitterness wrestling each other at the finish. Some dryness, and yes, a touch of tar.

Draft at capones. Pour s dark brown with ruby hues and a coffee head. Dominated by a roasty coffee, light malty milk aroma. A dry malt profile. So roasty it almost came across as metallic.

Pours a very dark brown with tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, nuts, citrus and hints of plum and chocolate. It’s alright.

Tap @ Flying Saucer, pours a dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasty malts, chocolate and some background coffee. Flavor is nicely roasty, with more light chocolate, coffee and citrus hops. Nothing overly complex, but an easy drinking porter.

On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper brown color with reddish tints and an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of coffee, chocoalte, roast, and caramel. Tastes of coffee, chocoalte, roast, pine, and some citrus. Sweeter tastes.

Tap at Capones. Pours a deep brown with amber notes and a medium creamy tan head that left spotty lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, pine, caramel, toasted malt and vanilla. Flavor of light roasted notes, coffee, pine, dark chocolate, and some grapefruit notes.

Draft: Poured a dark brown color with not much head. The aroma was coffee and some chocolate. The flavor was bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and a touch of hops. Overall, a good porter, but nothing that stands out.
