Commercial Description:
JLS Release #16: Imperial Porter ~ for summer you ask? Why the hell not! This is not your average porter, this is not Mocha Porter. This is a huge mouthful of malt and hops. It has notes of bitter rich chocolate and hints of tar. A new hop variety called Summit was used to give it the perfect hop balance. This Porter is the Creme de la Creme! Unfiltered, Unrefined, Uncompromised. Imperial Porter is brewed with two row pale, Munich, dark crystal, chocolate and black malts; and 100% Summit hops. Original Gravity @ 18.7 degrees plato, Finishing Gravity @ 4.75 degrees plato, IBU’s around 60!

On tap: The aroma is very fruity (lots of plum and some grape) with some light chocolate and citrus hops. It’s a dark brown with a small brown head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with lots of plum and light chocolate. The finish has some moderate citrus hoppiness and faint roast. Medium bodies with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. Reminds me of a hoppy Baltic Porter.

Pours a rich black color with frothy light brown head. Aroma is of anise, dark roasted malt, light chocolate, and some spent coffee grinds. Taste is of light chocolate, roasted malt, mild coffee and some anise/icorice notes. Carbonation is well suited for the brew and alcohol is very tame. Very tasty! I’d pick this up again if I didn’t get stuck paying $5 for a ceramic bottle.

Tap at public house in Portland... Opaque black with a thin brown head. Faint malt and sugary aroma. Smooth mellow palate that hugged your tongue. Straight up chocolate and malt flavors up front with a warming licorice-like alcohol and subtle hops for balance. This us very impressive and delicious.

tap - This porter looks great with excellent lacing. It has a nice roasty aroma and tastes of roast malt and coffee. There’s a nice, full body. The finish has a little too much alcohol. Overall this is a good, satisfying porter.
