Commercial Description:
The recipe comes from Rogue’s Eugene City Brewery and is being produced in Newport for distribution initially in kegs only to JLS accounts. A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

1st May 2008. Rich and malty with a sily mid. Subtle fruit. Finishes with more rich malt and a fairly hoppy bitter finish. Very drinkable.

This flippy top bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a hazy strongly carbonated brown colored body. The mild aroma was woody and malt hop. The mildly vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops and red malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Pours a muddy red with orange highlights. Very small white head. Aroma is weird... It’s like an odd amsh up of aromas, that don’t really work together. Toffee, chocolate, mint, crystal malt, and yeast. The flavor is very boozy, and a little watery, and unballanced. Not really a fan of this beer. Glad I didn’t pay the ridicoulous price they want for this one!

2008 ceramic. sitting on the store shelf for about a year. deep garnet color with a medium sized tan head. malty aroma with chocolate covered caramels. flavor is delightfully sweet with lots of caramel malt. some notes of brown sugar, cocoa, and orange jelly. the typical rogue hoppiness is in the background here for once. it’s more malt driven to me. full body. almost creamy but not quite. no alcohol noticeable. pretty good stuff but pricey.

Bottle. Pours a very deep red, with an off-white, persistent, and moderately lacing head. Nose is huge malt, very Belgian in a sense, big bitterness, lovel fruit, loads of fig and toffee. Like a failed IAPA or a light barleywine. Palate is well rounded, more Belgian-esque fruit, plus toffee, hops, richness, and mild booze. A very interesting beer, but i would hesitate to call this brilliant.

Pours deep mahogany tinged red into a snifter. Beige head quickly recedes to skim surface. Pacman and resin aromas. Slightly flat with an underlying spritz. Caramel from front to back with a lasting bitter pine finish.

Pours a murky brown/red with tannish head. Aroma is earthy malt and caramel. Sweetish, earthy tones and some alcohol. Heavy on the palate.
