Commercial Description:
The recipe comes from Rogue’s Eugene City Brewery and is being produced in Newport for distribution initially in kegs only to JLS accounts. A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

Deep dark amber-red beer with a creamy tan head. The aroma is lightly malty and sweet with a nice rich chewy amber malt character along with some rich cherry/fruity sweetness. There is a softly bready/malty character. Sticky and sweet, but without being overly malty. Lots of sweet piny/fruity hops. Quite sticky with a sweet chewy mouthfeel, red currant, berries and a light piny flavour on the back. A kiss of mint along with a light resinousness. Decent balance though. The best Rogue beer I’ve had in awhile.

on tap from the rogue brewery in newport. I had some random notes and a score: dark yellow-brown murky pour - looks thick. chewy texture yet still clean and light. bread grains and lemon tartness. bitter finish. K-7.5

Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. Gobs of caramel waft up from the glass and meld nicely with citrusy and piney hop notes. Full-bodied and fatty with dancing carbonation. Huge caramel malt backbone with additional flavors of dates and other dark fruits. Hopped up nicely enough to barely favor the bitter side of balance. The finish is malty up front, and then bitter and dry.

(Ceramic bottle 75 cl) Clear warm orangey golden with an off-white head. Fat aroma of burned caramel and nuts. Quite full-bodied with sweetish accents of caramel, nuts and some hints of sherry. Rather bitter finish. Very decent. 180908

Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival. Dark amber, small head. Floral toffeeish nose. Medioum bodied with vital, rounded mouthfeel. Lots of caramel, a bit of citrus and a slight general spicyness. Long salty bitterness. A streamlined, vital full sized beer, typical US West Coast style.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival 2008. A hazy red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of alcohol and fruit. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of malt, caramel, fruit, and alcohol, the latter leaving a burn, leading to the dry bitter finish, where the fruity notes carries thru.
