Commercial Description:
The recipe comes from Rogue’s Eugene City Brewery and is being produced in Newport for distribution initially in kegs only to JLS accounts. A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

On tap at Rogue Public House in San Fran. There was really nothing red about this, as far as I can tell, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I wanted to get the imperial porter next, but they were out. Ah well.

Pours a dark mahogany color w/ a full creamy head w/ some English beachballs on top. Strong malty sweet aromas spill forward w/ a very heavy plumb candy and cocoa essence. Full nectar w/ creamy residual effers. It’s like pure heavy cream. Gloppy malt pulp spreads like jam over my palate w/ a mild yet noticable aspirin bittering component to help balance this copiously malty concoction. A massive caramel overflow is round and very generous in the gift giving dept. Graham crackers and some ripe stonefruit push forward. The finish never ends. Let it warm as the hops show stronger for more balance. Overall: this brew is decadent, like bacon fat.

Ruby red body with a 1-inch eggshell head. Aroma is reminiscent of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Flavor is fairly sweet but has a mild nuttiness and just enough hops to get you to notice. A pretty tasty beer.

Pours a clear brown with a think white, long lasting foam. Taste is strong caramel, malts, with a bit of alcohol flavor. It leaves a lasting sweet flavor of toffee or dry fruits.

The aroma is nice and hoppy with lots of caramel. The hops have both pine and citrus with a hint of leaves. The appearance is amber with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s good but not as good as I wanted it to be.

Draught @ Issaquah Brew House. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a malty hoppy aroma with some hints of dark fruit and caramel. Fruity malty and very hoppy bitter flavor with hints of dark fruit. Long malty hoppy bitter finish with a long bitter aftertaste.
