pours a clear burgundy with a large tan head, and very good lacing.
smell of cocoa, burnt caramel, spice, hint of dark fruits, some citrus, and malt.
taste is smooth, hoppy, nutty, some malt, a little sour, caramel, spice, pepper, and some chocolate, ends on the bitter side and a little dry. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Ceramic swing-top bottle. Pour almost brown with just a tinge of red to it. Aroma of sweet malt and dark fruit. Similar flavor with a bitter hop finish. Nice carbonation and a soft, smooth mouthfeel. Definitely got better as it warmed. Very nice beer, just horribly overpriced. ndubs360 (114), portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2008 This beer is tastey indeed, pours a deep blood red with a small, pencil earaser sized white head. This beer tastes of strong sweet amlts which fades into a bitter hop profile. Spices round out the flavor transition. nice beer indeed. douglas88 (1583), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Updated: Jun 9, 2008On tap at the NABA fest 2008 in Idaho Falls. Pours a dark red with a very nice thick head. The aroma was nutmeg, toffee and a bunch of sweet caramel malts. The taste was full of a very rich and powerful caramel malt that is quite sweet, also some light spices; nutmeg, light fruit and hops. Very nice find at the festival. No alcohol noticed, and very smooth. nimbleprop (844), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 6, 2008 Why does Rogue put these average beers in outrageously expensive packaging? The black ceramic swing-top bottle is cool, but the contents just aren’t worth $20. Looks fairly standard, transparent, hazy amber, reddish brown with a frothy, lacing beige head. Aroma is very strong, powerful almost like a barleywine. Dark, chewy bread grains, sweet caramel and cookie dough with pine resin, grapefruits, lemon zest. Flavor is similar, very grainy and bready and that unique taste their Pacman yeast leaves behind. A strong bitterness envelopes the palate and hides a dry finish. Nice and drinkable but not a deal by any standard. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A strong, but not particularly characterful American amber.
I like:
Lean and supple mouthfeel with cleansing carbonation.
I dislike:
Rather dull hop profile lacking in grip and aroma. Not particularly well masked alcohol. Distinctively grainy more than toasty, feeling a bit simplistic for a strong ale. Not a whole lot of malt depth.

Hoppy aroma with plenty of fruit led by refreshing citrus.. Rather hop filled flavor. Some caramel, bitter hops, a touch of pine. The finish has some alcohol and bitterness. Very pleasent body. Hop filled and refreshing, this is a fine brew. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
