A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

On tap. Poured a brown red with almost no head. Fairly sweet, with some spices, cloves maybe? with a fairly strong malty backbone.

I was nonplussed. Pretty imbalanced in my view - the malts taste raw and the hops are overpowered by it. Not even in the top ten reds I can name.

Tap. Pours a slightly hazy amber brown with a small off-white head that fades to a ring leaving good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel, a hint of roasted malt, and a touch of floral hops. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a moderate to strong amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Very good.

750ml ceramic swing top bottle. Pours brownish red. Small but lasting tan head. Fruity malty nose, with toffee and citrus peel hop notes. Flavour of toffee and nutty malts with resiny hops, grapefruity bitterness and notes of alcohol. Pine and grapefruit linger in aftertaste. Moderate carbonation, medium bodied.

Very cool bottle. Dark red pour with off white fluffy head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Nice dry flavor with citrus and chocolate. Body is thick and the alcohol is well-hidden. Overall, tasty, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the price.
