Commercial Description:
The recipe comes from Rogue’s Eugene City Brewery and is being produced in Newport for distribution initially in kegs only to JLS accounts. A 750-ml ceramic swing-top bottle will be released in 2008, along with draft. Deep copper chestnut color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts, and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade. Imperial Red is brewed with Crystal, Chocolate, Munich and two-row Pale Malts; Palisade and Aroma Crystal hops, Pacman Yeast, and Free Range Coastal Waters. Measurements: 20 degrees Plato, 75 IBUs, 77 Appaprant Attentuation, 57 degrees Lovibond, 9% ABV.

Bottle @ Mondial de la Bière
Appearance: hazed dark amber with hint of red , little ring of head.
Nose: Strong rich caramel like character with woody hints , sweet malts blended with alcohol. Solid rich nose.
Flavor/Palate : Mid bodied with thinner finish. Malt with strong alcoholic presence. Caramel malt based , sugary and semi dry top. Drinkable if sampled in colder nights. Light bitter hop feel at late finish.

2009-06-06. Dark red brown body with a small tan head. (3+) Aroma is alcoholic, mild malt with a touch of caramel. (6+) Flavour is bitter over a sweetish caramel malt. Light green leafy notes to the hops, mild resin. Average plus palate. Decent but it lacks sufficient depth to support the alcohol and bitterness. Okay. Bottle at Mondial 2009, Montreal

Drinking this I had to wonder if I had injured my brain and lost my sense of taste and smell. Really nice looker but there just isnt much there to appreciate. Medium malty body with so little character I have trouble describing. The ultimate Meh Drink.

Bottle, Goodbar Beer Club. Rich amber/red, minimal head. Nose is malt, slight butter, a little honey. Flavor is rich malt, crisp carbonation then astringent bitter hops take over. Eh.

An expensive bottle, thanks Boutip. An amber with good bitterness, balanced malt and some roast. Off white head lots of lace, even barleywinish. Particularly good integrated winner for people moving up the crafty brew food chain.

Draft at BT. Pours an amber body with a white head. Clove, nutty with some some light citrus and raisin. Accents of grapefruit and caramel. Unrefined sugars, and those Willy Wonka candy banana’s. As per reuben.

On draft at Eugene City Brewery. Pours out a deep mahogany with a medium sized white head that faded quickly. Aroma is almost entirely caramel with a bit of a pine hop note at the end. Flavor is much the same, too overly malty with just enough hop flavor to keep it from being a mess. Not one of my favorites.
