Great red ale, one of the best I’ve had. Smell is sweet and malty. Tastes like caramel and a tiny bit of hops. Small bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a 7 ounce bottle into a brandy snifter. Appearance is a murky brown with a thin, quickly diminishing head of grey-ish foam. This beer looks like its be stored in a dirty sock. Aroma is fairly indicative of a nice barley wine. Malty to the point of candied fruits and chocolate notes with a hint of booze to back-up the candy note. The taste is...interesting. I’m on the verge of saying stale, but something makes me think it isn’t. It’s not all that sweet. It has a bit of a Cavendish flavor to it. In that regard, this beer would pair nicely with a cigar. Palate is dry and robust.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
7 oz pony bottle from Blue Dog. I cannot believe this one is a new rate. Pours very thick and turbid ruby rusty colored with 1-finger khaki head. Nose is resiny hops, orange marmalade, dusty yeast esters, raisins, almonds, and cacao. The nose is like a barleywine. Tastes fruity, dry and floral, with a yeasty malt up front, fruity citrus marmalade at mid-palate, and a hoppy, rich, complex, yeasty malty fade, with some warming heat late. This one holds its own, and is very good.

Notes a caramel. Poca retenció d’escuma. Una mica massa alcoholica per tenir només 9 graus. Bona, però massa cara.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
7 oz. bottle- Pours a murky ruby red with a thin tan head that immediately reduces to a collar. The aroma is big malt, similar to a huge barleywine that has aged a year or so. Not sure how old this is, since Rogue refuses to use any dating system. The taste is very sweet, sherry or brandy comes to mind, only with less alcohol. Not my style, and this is obviously aged a couple of years, I got off the discount shelf from my local craft beer store.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mini bottle. Poured cloudy, deeper amber with a dense cap of khaki head. The aroma picked up rich caramel, nutty notes, and molasses with fruity and resiny hop highlights.. definitely some warmth.. nice. The flavor found molasses, caramel, and lesser chocolate at the core.. pine resin bitterness and peppery alcohol around.. finished with some oxidation and more warm malts.. a tad sharp at the end. Medium-bodied with a smooth feel across the middle of the palate.. sharp and hot at other times.. overall a decent brew, but not great.
