COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Red was originally brewed in 2008. It is deep copper chestnut in color with toffee, brown sugar, nuts and spice aromas. A rich supple entry leads to an off-dry medium-full body of tangy raisins and citrus marmalade, bittersweet chocolate, and mild spice flavors. It finishes with a long nutty, fruity fade.

Malts: Great Western Harrington, Klages, Hugh Baird Crystal, Black, Munich, Chocolate and rolled oats. Hops: Willamette, Cascade and Chinook. Yeast & Water: Rogue’s Pacman Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water.

Poured from a 7 ounce bottle into a brandy snifter. Appearance is a murky brown with a thin, quickly diminishing head of grey-ish foam. This beer looks like its be stored in a dirty sock. Aroma is fairly indicative of a nice barley wine. Malty to the point of candied fruits and chocolate notes with a hint of booze to back-up the candy note. The taste is...interesting. I’m on the verge of saying stale, but something makes me think it isn’t. It’s not all that sweet. It has a bit of a Cavendish flavor to it. In that regard, this beer would pair nicely with a cigar. Palate is dry and robust.

"not sure what this is based on, but it tastes nothing like a stronger St Rogue Red as i was hoping for. May more malt than hops in this one...toffee up front, and in the aroma with a slightly nutty, slightly bitter finish. another ok-pretty good beer from Rogue that’s not worth the ridiculous bottle price. I’d take a Red Rocket or Lagunitas Imperial Red any day over this one..."

9/5/2014. XS bottle. Cloudy dark amber with a thin white head. Malty and spicy aromas. Sweet sugary flavors with malt, caramel, spices and an earthy, hoppy finish.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a snifter. There was barely any difference between the two glasses other than a longer lasting filmier looking head in the snifter. The rest of the appearance was a hazy dark ruby red color with about a finger’s worth of white foaminess in the head. The lacing was filmy and clingy all around. The smell had a decent caramel maltiness with a light raisin and raspberry. It kind of comes across somewhat tart but not in a bad way. The taste was basically the same - slightly sweet, dark fruitiness and then tart again. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there but nothing overbearing. Light tart to sweet rolls over my tongue. Overall, this was an interesting American Strong Ale with the raisins and raspberries. I think I could do this again.

20.7 cl (7 fl.oz.) botle @El Lúpulo Feroz, Oviedo. 12-01-2014.
In short: nice amber ale.
Pours hazy dark amber, with some vanishing off white head. Some to poor head retention, poor lacing. Malty, caramel, heral aromas. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Taste is sweet, caramel, malty, some spicy, mild bitter. Balanced and enjoyable.

Aroma of sour mash, and malt. Not much of a head, reddish brown color. Sour taste of malt, with a touch of caramel. Creamy feel with a bitter malt finish.

Transfer from BA review on 5-25-12- Poured from 7 oz bottle into chalice glass Appearance – Pours a deep red basically brown color with a thin dense off white head that has good persistence. The head fades very slowly giving a medium amount of lacing. Smell – The smell is biggest of biscuit, roasted malt breadiness, and a heavy dose of booziness. These are mixed with sweeter aromas of dark fruit, molasses and a very light apple aroma which overall create a complex and enjoyable smell. Taste – The taste is big of alcohol and malt. The malt is dark bread in nature with the booziness being of a slight rum flavor. It starts out more on the malty side and as the taste develops more it gets more and more boozy. Throughout the taste there is a lighter sweetness. It starts out as more of a dark fruit sweetness but then turns more molasses in nature. While sweetness is present it is quite light and helps to round out some of the more malty and boozy flavors. While rounded out to some degree, there is still a rather strange (more burnt charred bread flavor) that is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew has above average creaminess with an average level of carbonation. The creaminess is suiting, but there is a bit too much carbonation for the malty and boozy nature of the flavors and it would likely do better with a bit less carbonation. Overall –It had a wonderful aroma, but other than that was a bit weaker then I would have anticipated. More sweetness in the taste would have done well to take care of the malty and char flavor of the brew and a lower carbonation would have suited the flavors better. Alright but not really the best of brews out there.

Poured from bottle into—whoa that baby is pungent. Forced salivation, and not from anticipation. Deep red, no head to speak of. Very boozy, dark fruit, concentrated. Feels more like a barley wine, but then I guess I should have expected that from an imperial red. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bastante buena

Rated from notes taken 11 Nov 2012 -- From a swingtop, I love those bottles. A very impressive heavy red. I’m more of a session red guy myself, though.
